1 BACKGROUND OF THE DOCUMENT 1.1 SUMMARY The document contains the material and short descriptions of the project s visibility actions as regards the events which were organized during the project s lifetime. Among other visibility actions, as described in the GA4, Open Seminars played a key role for the dissemination of the project s results to the stakeholders including the academic community, the Administration, experts and the public in all project partner s countries. 1.2 SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES The main objective was the dissemination of the project s results to the local communities and stakeholders across to the participant s countries in an effort to convert project outputs into results and maximize their impact. 1.3 RELATED DOCUMENTS 1.3.1 Input List of former deliverables acting as inputs to this document Document ID Descriptor 1.3.2 Output List of other deliverables for which this document is an input. 2 OPEN SEMINARS During the project s lifetime six (6) open seminars were held by the project s partners in different locations in order to engage the local communities and the stakeholders with the project results and outputs. Open Seminar: Serres, Greece The event was held on October the 29 th 2015 at the TEI of Kentriki Makedonia premises, under the responsibility of the Lead Beneficiary (LB). More than 160 persons attended the event including State and Regional Authorities, representatives of the administration, representatives of associations, members of the academic community, experts and the public. Fig1. Open seminar in Serres, Greece. Opening Session, welcome addresses by the Minister of Interior and administrative Reconstruction. Ms. Maria Kollia Tsarouha. The Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction, Ms. Maria Kollia Tsarouha congratulated the project partners for their scientific and practically useful work and spoke about the need for a closer cooperation between the scientific community and the decision makers in order to improve the operational efficiency of the Administration, to respond to emergency situations such as the floods, the landslides and the earthquakes cause. Local and Regional Administration authorities were represented in the event, including the Mayor of the city of Serres, the Vice Regional Governor of Kentriki Makedonia administrative unit and responsible for Infrastructure and Networks, Mr. Efstathios Avramidis, and the General Director of Infrastructure and the Environment of Kentriki Makedonia Regional Administration Mr. Apostolos Giantsis. The Regional Vice Governor (Fig. 2, left), expressed the appreciation and the gratitude of the Administration for the project outputs and their commitment to build on those a cooperation, that will convert these outputs into results for promoting safety of the citizens in the region. Opening Session, welcome addresses by the Vice Local Governor of Infrastructures and Networks of the Region of Kentriki Makedonia, Mr. Eustathios Avramidis (left) and the President of the Earthquake Planning Protection Organization of Greece, Professor Efthimios Lekkas (right) being interviewed by local TV channels. The President of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, Prof. Efthymios Lekkas (http://www.elekkas.gr/) who participated in the event, underlined the high quality of the project outputs and their practical significance to support decisions regarding disaster prevention in all three hazards examined. He also noted the great benefits from knowledge and competencies transfer through cooperation between universities and public administration for the benefit of both sides and mostly for the benefit of the people. The General Director of the Infrastructure and Environment division of the regional administration Mr. Apostolos Giantsis, expressed his appreciation of the project outputs and his intention to promote cooperation based on the SciNetNatHaz Project s outputs, between the Regional Administration and TEI of Kentriki Makedonia. established, leading to formulating new ideas and seeking for funding in order to implement and further expand the ScinetNatHaz project s outputs. Fig4. Open Seminar: Thessaloniki, Greece The event was held on October the 30 th 2015, at the premises of ITSAK- EPPO in Thessaloniki, under P2 (EPPO/ITSAK) responsibility. In this event were invited and participated representatives of different Local Authorities such as the Mayor of the city of Thessaloniki, the President of the of Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization and the Director of Civil Protection of Decentralized Administration of Makedonia and Thrace. Moreover, distinguished scientists were invited as keynote speakers. The Director of Civil Protection, Mr. Christos Mamarikas, noted that the results of the project are very useful for the Local Authorities and the Organizations which are dealing with such disastrous phenomena and underlined the benefits for the local communities. He also expressed the intention of the Civil Protection Agency to adopt the results and the useful tools that were produced by the project. Experts and officers from different parts of the country expressed their interest and participated in the event. This has led the project partners to expanding cooperation to neighboring regions as the Region of Dytiki (Western) Makedonia. All the related material of the event can be found in the project s website in the following link: http://scinetnathaz.net/?page_id=440 Open Seminar: Burgas, Bulgaria The seminar was held on October the 8th 2015, at the Aqua Hotel, Burgas, Bulgaria, under the P3 ( Assen Zlatarov University) responsibility. The objective of the SciNetNatHaz Open Day in Bulgaria was to introduce the project outputs to the stakeholders in Bulgaria, including the Administration, the academic society, experts ad practitioners and of course to the public interested in the topics of the project. The key experts of the project presented their work to 49 participants form research institutes, universities, local authorities and NGO's activated in civil protection and natural disaster management. Open Seminar: Xanthi, Greece The event was held on October the 8 th 2015, in Elisso hotel in Xanthi, under P1 (Democritus University of Thrace) responsibility. Local Authorities such as the Regional Governor of Anatoliki Makedonia and Thraki Region as well as the Director of Civil Protection Agency of Anatoliki Makedonia and Thraki Region participated in this event along with the academic community, associations, experts and the public, totaling more than 120 participants. Open Seminar: Chisinau, Moldova The event was performed on 15 th and 16 th of October 2015, in Klassik hotel in Chisinau, under P5 (ENPI) responsibility. The project was presented by Prof. Anatoli Sidorenko, head of the P5 team as well as the methodological approaches and results of the project were presented by the project s partners. Open Seminar: Ismail, Ukraine The event was performed on 13 th of October 2015, in the faculty of OSMA, in Ismail, under P6 (ENPI) responsibility. In this event were presented project s methodological approaches in relation to the use of Geographic Information Systems, for preventing the consequences of floods and landslides. Fig11.
