International High adventure FALL CAMPOREE September 23-25, 2011 PEMBINA GORGE NEAR WALHALLA, ND COST: $25.00 PER PERSON (INCLUDES ALL FOOD AND FEES. PAYMENT MAY BE IN US OR CANADIAN DOLLARS) FOR ALL US BOY SCOUT TROOPS, VENTURE CREWS, WEBELOS AND CANADIAN SCOUTS AND VENTURE SCOUTS. (WEBELOS MUST HAVE A PARENT OR GUARDIAN PRESENT TO CAMP OVERNIGHT)
SCOUTS AND LEADERS WILL HAVE THE OPERTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN EITHER AN OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP OR IN CAMP ACTIVITIES. BACKPACKING: BACKPACKERS WILL BE FORMED INTO CREWS MADE UP OF SCOUTS AND LEADERS FROM DIFFERENT UNITS. SPECIFIC SCOUTS AND LEADERS CAN BE KEPT TOGETHER IF THERE ARE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS. CREWS WILL DEPART 7:45 AM SATURDAY MORNING AND RETURN BY 10:00 AM SUNDAY MORNING. DURING THE HIKE, CREWS WILL STOP AT A VARIETY OF ACTIVIES DESIGNED TO TEST THEIR BASIC SCOUT SKILLS, TEACH NEW SKILLS AND HAVE FUN. CREWS WILL BE LOANED GPS UNITS, EMERGENCY RADIOS, MAPS, FOOD, WATER PURIFICATION EQUIPMENT AND ALL COOKING EQUIPMENT. PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO BRING A BACKPACK, MESS KIT WITH UTENCILS, SLEEPING BAG AND PAD, PERSONNEL ITEMS AND A BACKPACKING TENT. CREWS WILL MEET FRIDAY NIGHT AND WILL BE GIVEN THEIR FOOD AND CREW GEAR; AND WILL BE ENCOURAGED TO SHARE TENTS TO REDUCE WIEGHT. EACH CREW WILL BE PROVIDED WITH 1 PACKPACKING SINGLE BURNER STOVE, BUT MAY BRING ADDITIONAL UNITS IF THE DESIRE. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE CARRING ALL EQUIPMENT REQUIRED FOR THE OVERNIGHT. UNITS SENDING BACKPACKERS WILL NEED TO SEND A MINIMUM OF 1 BACKPACKING ADULT FOR EVERY 4 PACKPACKING YOUTHS TO ALLOW 2 DEEP LEADERSHIP IN EACH CREW. NON-BACKPACKERS: PARTICIPANTS NOT BACKPACKING WILL STAY TOGETHER AS A UNIT. UNITS WITH YOUTH WHO ARE NOT BACKPACKING SHOULD HAVE A MINIMUM OF 1 ADULT LEADER OVER 21 YEARS OLD NOT BACKPACKING. SMALL UNITS OR UNITS WITH ONLY 1 ADULT NOT BACKPACKING WILL BE COMBINED TO PROVIDE TWO DEEP LEADERSHIP. UNITS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH FOOD BUT WILL NEED TO PROVIDE ALL COOKING EQUIPMENT. UNITS WILL PARTICIPATE IN A ROUND-ROBIN OF ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO TEST THEIR BASIC SCOUT SKILLS, TEACH NEW SKILLS AND HAVE FUN.
ALL GROUPS: BOTH BACKPACKER AND NON-BACKPACKERS WILL CAMP TOGETHER ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND BE REUNITED BY 10:00 AM SUNDAY. BOTH SCOUTS AND ADULTS WILL NEED COMPLETED HEALTH FORMS PARTS A AND C. ALL MEALS WILL BE PROVIDED FRIDAY CRACKER BARREL THROUGH SUNDAY BREAKFAST. UNITS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FRIDAY SUPPER AND SUNDAY LUNCH. SCOUTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK ON THE BACKPACKING MERIT BADGE REQUIREMENTS 1-8. BRING SKIT OR SONG TO THE CAMPFIRE: ATTENTION ALL SKITS OR SONGS WILL BE SCREENED AND IF A TROOP OR PATROL DOESN T HAVE A SKIT WE WILL HAVE SAMPLES FOR THEM TO CHOOSE FROM. SCOUT REMINDERS FIRES- WOOD/CHARCOAL, OR COOK WITH GAS- THERE WILL BE NO CHOPPING OF TREES ETC. SCOUTS WILL FOLLOW THE OUTDOOR CODE. FIRES MUST BE CONTAINED SOME WOOD GATHERING WILL BE PERMITTED. REMIND SCOUTS TO BRING WARM CLOTHES, SLEEPING BAG AND RAIN GEAR. IT COULD GET COLD.
