ברוכים הבאים מהמנהלת Director Message from the Shalom! Shalom! Summer camp has always had a special place in my heart. It gave me the chance to grow and learn in an environment and community that embraced me. I flourished in those summer months, and I strongly believe they shaped me as much as the rest of the year. As Director of Camp Komaroff, I strive to make the experience for all campers as fun, fulfilling, and transformative as it was for me. Campers will learn, make friends, be part of a diverse community, and have a safe place to try new things and explore. I have a Master s Degree in Jewish Education, with an emphasis in Experiential Education. I ve been working in Jewish camping for over 10 years. I also have a long history at the Alpert JCC. I was a camper here myself and had my first job as a camp counselor at age 16. So serving as camp director is truly a dream job for me! Our Staff... The AJCC Youth & Teen Staff is hand-picked from a large pool of qualified applicants. As we interview staff, we look for certain qualities: maturity, enthusiasm, warmth, and the willingness to take a chance; to try something different. We look for counselors and instructors who understand what it feels like to be a kid and who aren't afraid to be one themselves. Once selected, counselors go through rigorous training, including sessions in program planning, field trip management, first aid and safety, conflict resolution, and much more. At the end of the comprehensive training, our staff is revved up and ready to go from day one! And to ensure that we stay up-to-date, staff continues to meet weekly to brush up on old skills and acquire new ones so that we can meet the individual needs of each camper. Betzelem Elohim (All people are created in the image of G-d) At Camp Komaroff, we treat everyone with kindness, compassion, and respect. I m also a certified Yoga instructor, nature educator, passionate baker, as well as music lover. Campers will have the opportunity to make challah every Friday, and participate in Yoga, nature activities, and Israeli dance classes, in addition to all of our other amazing Chugim (electives) and group activities, including: art, dance, music, theater, science, and more. Campers will go on an exciting field trip every week, swim in our pool in the afternoons, enjoy special theme days, (including my favorite, Color Wars), and enjoy a wide range of activities. Camp Komaroff is here to support your child. We believe our camp will help foster meaningful relationships, uncover hidden talents, develop new skills, and help your child become more independent. Our camp is a safe space for all campers to come and explore who they are, their connection to Judaism, and their community. I look forward to another amazing summer! L Shalom, Dana Schneider Chanzit Camp Director ACA Accreditation We are proud to announce that for over 20 years, Camp Komaroff has achieved accreditation through the American Camp Association (ACA). In order to achieve ACA accreditation, Camp Komaroff has met over 300 standards including health, safety, staff qualifications, training, and emergency management. 1 alpertjcc.org Register online @ alpertjcc.org 562.426.7601 CampKomaroff@alpertjcc.org
