September 17, 2016 Sponsor Event: Ralph s Motorsports New Location in Balzac Ralph s Motorsports invites the Calgary Snowmobile Club to attend the Grand Opening of their new Balzac location. Friday Sept 17, 2016 from 10am to 4pm. MAP On June 20th, the doors were unlocked and the open sign switched on at Ralph s Motorsports Bigger, Better, Balzac location, and it s been a whirlwind of activity for the shop ever since. Ralph s Motorsports 262117 Balzac Boulevard, Balzac, AB, T4B 2T3 Local 403.291.4868 Toll Free 877.972.5747 https://www.facebook.com/ralphsmotorsports/ The staff have been hard at work not only helping new customers and showing off the shop to our regulars, but organizing everything. Moving 45 years of history and one of the largest ATV and snowmobile inventories in Canada is no small task. It took us years to build, months to pack, and a solid week of over 25 people ferrying boxes and crates up and down Deerfoot. We ve got it all here now, and most of it is unpacked, but the rush of new business has slowed a bit of the progress on organization. Not that we re complaining! The Calgary Snowmobile Club has been such a great support to us through all these years. We wanted to make sure to thank each and every one of you for your patronage and enthusiasm; you guys do so much for the snowmobile community in and around Calgary! We hope you all will join us on Saturday, September 17th, 10am to 4pm, as we celebrate our big move to Balzac! We re having a Grand Opening Extravaganza, and we promise food, Arctic Cat swag, games, prizes, demo rides on the new test track, and some amazing sales! And because we don t anticipate any snow (but it is Calgary, you never know!), everyone can try out the new 2017 M8s on an Arctic Cat Virtual Reality head set. People were lining up in droves at the last Las Vegas Arctic Cat Dealer show to try this out, so we re really excited to have it for our Grand Opening! We hope to see you all there! September 20, 2016 - CSC General Meeting The Calgary Snowmobile Club will be having our first General Meeting of the 2016 2017 sledding season on Tuesday September 20, 2016. Same time and location as last season: 7:30pm at the East Calgary Twin Arenas (299 Erinwoods Drive SE). A key topic will be planning for the Edmonton (ASA) Snow Show October 14-16. September 24-25, 2016 Trails Maintenance This is the weekend we have booked with the Backcountry Trails Rehabilitation Program (BTFR) for additional Trails Maintenance work. Please note this on your calendars if you would like to help out. We will send out more information after the September long weekend. The Calgary Snow Show is cancelled for 2016 Due to time and volunteer constraints, the Calgary Snowmobile Club will not be putting on a Calgary Snowmobile Swap & Show this year. Trails Committee Report Accomplishments by the CSC Trails Committee since our year end April 2016 general meeting: AUGUST 27, 2016 Club members showed support for the Quad Squad/CrowSnow Riders at Atlas Staging areas and associated trails by attending the Oldman Watershed Council's (OWC) Recreation Advisory Committee (R.A.C.) Clean-Up Day. This is the OWC committee that Scott Kjarsgaard was invited to be an advisor on from a motorized/snowmobiling prospective, approximately 10 months ago. AUGUST 20 21, 2016 The season s first Trail Maintenance Days! We worked with AB Environment & Parks' Backcountry Trails Flood Rehabilitation (BTFR) program on needed trail repairs. The Trails Committee was able to organize 12 people along both Etherington and Baril Creeks to do needed willow staking and other work: 1. Secured one of the new Etherington Bridge's abutments and willow staked both sides 2. Willow staked the new fiberglass bridge on Baril Creek. 3. Completed a new re-route onto & off the new Baril Creek Bridge. As well, a club sponsor & contractor came out to assess the repair needs to the trails above the flood level, and estimate the time and expense for the repairs. JULY 7, 2016 Two committee members spent the day with our new Public Lands officer, for Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle P.L.U.Z./ snowmobile trails, to show him improvements we would like to make above the "flood line" on this year's T.F.A. We had a very good day showing him the erosion that has happened since AB Public Lands department took on oversight of the area from AB Parks almost 15 years ago. JULY 2-3, 2016 Attended the long weekend Calgary A.T.V. Recreation Association (CARA) ride at Dutch Creek to meet this organization, finding out more about the ATV and snowmobile trails in the area. This is of special interest to us as the new Livingston P.L.U.Z. is coming, changing the legislation for the area from Public Lands "green space" to a higher level of legal requirements/adjudication. As well, one of the projects being worked on is a new designated trail, a full connector for snowmobiles from Cataract Creek to the Crowsnest Pass (CNP). JUNE 4, 2016 Attended the CNP Stewardship Day to assist the Quad Squad/CrowSnow Riders with decking some bridges for quads and sleds to stay "out of the water". This day was organized by the Government of Alberta's Agriculture & Forestry and Environment & Parks ministries, more specifically, by the departments of Forestry, Parks, and Public Lands. With the coming changes to the Eastern Slopes, it was important for us to attend to show that the Calgary Snowmobile Club is part of the solution. Trails Committee Report cont d... SOUTH SASKATCHEWAN REGIONAL PLAN MEETINGS (April to June, 2016) Glen Gillis and Scott Kjarsgaard attended, by invitation, three important S.S.R.P. meetings on behalf of the club; April 26, May 25, and June 8. Topics covered were the Linear Foot Print for the upcoming Porcupine Hills and Livingstone P.L.U.Z.'s and the initial Recreational Plan for the Porcupine Hills. This will affect C.S.C. and snowmobilers, as the Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails extend into the upcoming Livingstone P.L.U.Z. and its Recreation Plan will have an effect on our activities. OTHER MEETINGS (May to June, 2016): May 4 - A.E.&P. meeting on utilizing the AB. Parks Volunteer Database for tracking our members projects and activities with the BTFR program work, as well as our own activities at Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle P.L.U.Z. (T.F.A. Trail Maintenance Days and other work done/time spent there). May 11 - Trails Committee Meeting, pre-summer, identifying work needs and prioritizing work to be done. May 12 - meeting with Spray Lake Sawmill, Cochrane, going over their preliminary upcoming winter activities at Cataract Creek Snow Vehicle P.L.U.Z., as well as what was done this past winter. June 3 - OWC RAC meeting in Lethbridge. Provided input to OWC activities as well as activities this summer in the watershed. NEXT TRAIL MAINTENANCE DAYS (September 24-25, 2016) More to come on this directly, but the weekend we have booked with the Backcountry Trails Rehabilitation Program (BTFR) is on September 24 & 25 - please "save the date" if you would like to help out. We will send out more information after the September long weekend. Scott Kjarsgaard CSC Trails Committee Organizer Calgary Snowmobile Club August 2016 Pre-season Newsletter 6

Club Membership vs ASA Membership Around this time of year, ASA Membership renewals start to arrive via Canada Post. Please note than an ASA Membership does not include a Calgary Snowmobile Club Membership. A Club Membership, however, does include the ASA Membership plus additional benefits specific to Club Members. The Club membership entitles the member to: Attend Club Rides Attend Club general meetings and functions (Horseshoe Tournament, Windup Party, etc.) Receive Club newsletters, Ride Notices, Trail Maintenance events, etc. by email Receive notice of dealer / sponsor discounts for Club Members (show your Club Membership Card) Vote on Club initiatives and the annual Club Executive elections. A Calgary Snowmobile Club Membership (individual rider or family of riders) costs: Club membership dues ($20). One ASA Membership - Trail Pass ($70) per sled Thus a Club Membership for a single rider would be $90 ($20 + $70). Club Membership for a family of 4 riders would be $300 ($20 + $70 + $70 + $70 + $70). The Club membership dues go directly to the Club and help cover Club-specific expenses such as: renting facilities for our monthly general meetings and executive meetings banking fees mailing costs web-site expenses/changes etc. To ensure that you purchase a Club Membership and not just an ASA Trail Pass, please purchase your Club Membership through any of the following options: At a Club general meeting From an Executive member The Mail-in form at the end of each newsletter The PayPal link on our website s Join the Club page below: o http://www.calgarysnowmobileclub.net/calgary_snow_mobile_club_join.html o (NOTE: The PayPal option adds a $5 to $10 convenience fee to defray PayPal costs) The Mail-in form downloaded from our website s Join the Club page: o http://www.calgarysnowmobileclub.net/calgary_snow_mobile_club_join.html Thank-you for your support.
