NEW JERSEY CASINO CONTROL COMMISSION Tennessee Avenue and Boardwalk Atlantic City, NJ 08401 CCC Announces 2009 Casino Revenue For Immediate Release Monday, January 11, 2010 Contact: Daniel Heneghan Public Information Officer 609 441-3799 daniel.heneghan@ccc.state.nj.us ATLANTIC CITY Casino revenues fell 13.2 percent in 2009 to $3.9 billion, according to figures released Monday by the state Casino Control Commission. Slot machine revenues declined by 13.1 percent to $2.72 billion for the year while revenue from table games decreased by 13.5 percent to $1.22 billion. Casinos continued to suffer in 2009, Casino Control Commission Chair Linda M. Kassekert said. The weak national economy, growing competition across our borders and the partial ban on smoking in casinos combined to depress gaming revenues. She added that recent legislation to allow table games in Pennsylvania and Delaware will increase the level of competition in the near future, but expressed confidence that Atlantic City s casinos will rebound when the economy starts to grow and consumer confidence returns. Atlantic City has a lot to offer visitors in addition to gambling. When the economy improves and people have more money to spend on entertainment, Atlantic City will draw more and more people interested in visiting our shops, enjoying a concert, dining in our fine restaurants and relaxing on our beach, she said. When it comes to the concentration of amenities we have here in Atlantic City, none of the competition can compare. After adjustments and promotional gaming credits, Atlantic City s casinos paid $295.3 million on taxable gross revenue of $3.7 billion in 2009. That money, 8 percent of taxable gross revenue, goes into the Casino Revenue Fund which pays for programs that benefit qualifying senior citizens and people with disabilities. In addition, the casinos incurred another $49.3 million in reinvestment obligations. They are required to

reinvest 1.25 percent of taxable gross revenues in projects approved by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. In December alone, revenues declined by 9.8 percent to $272.1 million. Slot revenues in December fell 12.5 percent to $179 million and table revenues fell 4.3 percent to $93.1 million. Win, or casino revenue, is the net amount of money won by casinos. It is not profit. (Detailed data on revenues from each individual casino can be found at the Commission s website http://www.njccc.gov/casinos/financia/mthrev/. For more information contact the Office of Communications.)
