Mr Oleksander Klitko highlighted the importance of the final phase of the project. He also urged the committee members to read the draft report on EPIRB activities in Ukraine and give their suggestions for the plan of activities for the remaining period. At present, there are three international projects operating in Ukraine, which are dealing with the water resources issues. There are Environmental Protection of International River Basins Project, Support to Ukraine in approximation of the EU environmental acquis and Improving Environmental Monitoring in the Black Sea and there should be the regular contacts between them. The new EUWI+ water project, consisting of 2 components will start soon it is a continuation of the EUWI and EPIRB project and will assist the beneficiaries in the implementation of the EPIRB products. Mr Timothy Turner, Team Leader of EPIRB project, made a presentation on the overview of EPIRB project progress and the two project tasks, the strengthening of monitoring systems and tools and development of River Basin Management Plans (RBMP). He reported that the project was on programme and to budget and that it had now entered an extension period from February-October 2016.fHe presented the support that has been provided by EPIRB project to the countries in meeting their obligations under the UNECE Water and Danube Conventions; informed about the development of WFD monitoring programs and ecological status classification systems in the project countries, guidance on monitoring of salty waters in accordance with the WFD and the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, development of WFD data management tools and the next steps to finalize the web-based GIS database system for the project countries. He reported on the RBMP process and progress achieved summarized the implementation results, including seven national public consultation meetings being held in the pilot basins in February-May 2015. The plans are now in the final draft versions and are to be adopted in the next 6 months during the extension phase. Mr Turner the gave a general introduction to pilot projects implemented within the EPIRB project. Ms Nataliia Zakorchevna, River basin Management Expert of EPIRB project presented the practical results of EPIRB activities during the last year in Ukraine such as the preparing of the RBMPs for Upper Dnieper and Prut river basin, processes of public consultation, share the lessons learned from the pilot projects. Representatives of UNEGO MAMA 86, contractor of EPIRB project for preparing RBMPs, Mr Anna Tsvietkova and Mr Marta Korchemlyuk presented the main outputs of RBMPs of Upper Dnieper and Prut river basins. Mr Mykhailo Tomakhin noted that the project had shown good results in Ukraine and moved beyond its preliminary assignments, studying the ecological status of rivers in the pilot basins. Mr Oleksandr Bon` asked the contractor to prioritize the Plans measures proposed in RBMPs for its privilege implementation. Mr Timothy Turner made the presentation about the project activities and plans for the extension period under the two project tasks. There are no new activities just extension of existing activities which have been designed to link in with EUWI+. Mr Turner presented the extension budget and programme and described the management arrangements. Ms Nataliia Zakorchevna presented the EPIRB extension activities to be implemented in Ukraine in 2016. Mr Oleksander Klitko emphasized further the need for close cooperation among international projects and asked for support in organising Danube Day celebrations as the annual ICPDR tradition on the tenth anniversary. Ms Mykhailo Tomakhin wished success for the remainder of the project and expressed hope for continued close co-operation EPIRB projects and the Ministry. Human Dynamics Consortium Page 2 of 7
