Community Festival. Join the Chamber along with 300 members of Valley community groups, local businesses, and residents to help clean and beautify the San Fernando Valley. Grand Opening of the New Pool, Sunday June 8! Join us for our for our community pool party to celebrate the grand opening of the new Pool, Sunday, June 8 at Park! Celebrate the completion of the new Pool, with free entry for all, swimming, and free snacks provided by East Neighborhood Council. Bring your bathing suit and be among the first people to swim in the new pool. The pool will open for the regular swimming season June 21. Our office has worked for several years to secure funding to bring a new pool to, fulfilling a pledge to replace the old

Pool, which was damaged and had been closed for years. Re-opening the pool is part of our ongoing committment to the community of the San Fernando Valley. The new pool features a large lap pool, and a shallow wading pool equipped for young children and people with disabilities. There is a splash pad, and all -new lifeguard offices, first aid station, showers and changing rooms. Best of all, there is an amazing two-story high waterslide. The Department of Recreation and Parks is holding a community meeting to provide information about lead testing and the status of Chatsworth Park South on Thursday, June 12, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Mason Park Recreation Center in Chatsworth. (Street parking) Chatsworth Park South was closed in February as a health and safety precaution after lead contamination was discovered. Lead shot and bullet fragments were found at the site, which once served as an outdoor shooting range long before it became a City park. Ongoing Brush Clearance for Fire Season As of May 1, properties in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) will be inspected by the Fire Department to check for mandatory brush clearance to help protect neighborhoods from wildfires. Homeowners living in this zone, which includes the northern and western edge of the San Fernando Valley, will receive reminders by mail from the Fire Department. Grand Opening of Fire Station 87... We celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station 87 Saturday, May 3 at the new station, located on Balboa Blvd. near Devonshire St. We were joined by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, LAFD Chief Doug Barry, City Engineer Gary Lee Moore, and many residents who came to celebrate the new station. Community members got the chance to meet the firefighters and see the facility that will help keep our community safe. There were helicopter fly-overs, refreshments, facepainting, fire house chili, jumpers, music and tours of the station. Starting July 1 New Laws on Use of Cell Phones While Driving Mark your calendar - starting July 1, two new traffic safety laws go into effect in California
Page 5 of 8 regulating the use of cell phones while driving. The first law prohibits the use of handheld cell phones while driving. Drivers under 18 years old may not use ANY cell phone behind the wheel. Emergency calls are exempt. The laws do not apply to passengers, only those driving the car. Ongoing Construction at Metrolink Station About half of the parking lot of the Metrolink Station will be closed due to construction to improve the stations, starting Friday, June 6. LADOT will be reconstructing the southern half of the Metrolink Station parking lot and building a new sidewalk from the station to Parthenia St. The work is expected to take about one year. About 120 parking spaces will remain available. LADOT recommends the following alternatives to Metrolink riders: Use DASH
