Learn to Fly @ ROCKHAMPTON AERO CLUB The ROCKHAMPTON AERO CLUB is one of the oldest flying clubs in Australia - established 1930 -

THIS PAGE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK

A BRIEF HISTORY First formed in 1930 as Rockhampton Aerial Services, the Rockhampton Aero Club started flying training in a De Havilland Gypsy Moth. Following a period of inactivity during the Second World War, the club was reformed in January 1947 and in 1951 purchased surplus Tiger Moths and started flying training once more. In 1960 the club purchased their first Cessna aircraft, a C150 and a C172. Today we operate a fleet of single engine aircraft and twin-engine aircraft in a variety of roles including flight training, air charter, search and rescue and fire spotting Operating out of a variety of buildings since its inception, the Rockhampton Aero Club moved into its current premises in March 2003. Our team of experienced, professional flying instructors come from a variety of backgrounds across the country, and are only too happy to share their wealth of information with you. From Gypsy Moths to the Cessna 172, the Rockhampton Aero Club has continued to provide quality services to the people of the Central Queensland.

With a cruise speed of over 330 km/hr, it s the ideal aircraft to save you time and money during a long-range trip. PIPER PA-28 235 Seats: Cruise Speed: 135 thumb_img_8272_1024.jpg The Piper Cherokee is equipped with a Manual Propeller Pitch Control (MPPC) which makes it economical in all phases of flight. It s the perfect aircraft for advanced and CPL training, as well as the long range trip due to its performance, saving you money and time. VICTA AIRTOURER AT-115 Seats: Cruise Speed: 105 The Victa Airtourer is a light, 2 seat Australian built aircraft that is capable of aerobatics. For the adventurous and thrillseekers, this is the perfect aircraft for you to see the world upside-down. This aircraft is also available for ab-initio pilot training for the Recreational Pilot Licence

Recreational Pilots Licence Welcome to the world of private flying! Your flying starts right here with the RPL. This is the first stage of your flying training which, once achieved will allow you to take family and friends on flights into the local training area. With permission from an authorized flying instructor, you will also be able to fly over the scenic Capricorn Coast with family and friends. The RPL flight training teaches you the skills necessary to safely operate an aircraft in and around the Rockhampton area. This self-paced training is conducted in your choice of either our Cessna 150 or 172 club aircraft. Private Pilot Licence - PPL Have you ever wanted to see the whales off Fraser Island, have lunch in Bundaberg, afternoon tea at Gladstone, and still be back home in time for the 6 o clock news? The Private Pilot s License opens up the entire continent of Australia (and overseas) for you and your passengers to explore. Using the Cessna 172, the self-paced training builds upon the skills you developed for the RPL as we teach you visual navigation using a map, compass and other navigation aids, weather, and many other aspects of cross-country navigation. Night VFR Rating This rating expands your horizons even further and allows you to fly visually at night. The training focuses more on the use of the aircraft s instruments and radio navigation aids, while also teaching you the hazards of spatial disorientation. No previous flying experience is required, just a burning desire to see the world from a different perspective!

Commercial Pilot License - CPL Welcome to the world of professional flying! Have you ever wanted to fly for an airline or conduct charter for fare-paying passengers? The Commercial Pilots License provides you with the basics required for any type of professional operation, and will open up many doors in aviation, from Airlines, to Charter and even Instructing. We will enhance the skills you have already learned during the RPL and PPL, and teach you to fly an aircraft not only accurately, but also economically with good judgement and decision making skills, which will prepare you to operate in the professional world of Aviation. Instrument Rating - IFR Don t get grounded by low clouds and rain. The instrument rating will allow you to fly in and out of cloud, and conduct approaches at aerodromes using nothing but your instruments to get you to a lower altitude, and increase your chances of landing safely. You will fly a combination of simulators and aircraft during your training. Both single-engine and multi-engine IFR options are available, including a Private IFR (PIFR) if you desire. Discuss these options with your Instructor. Instructor Rating Do you enjoy teaching? Ever thought you could teach someone else to fly? Step into the right hand seat of a Cessna, and now enhance your skills so that you can not only fly, but also accurately demonstrate and talk a student through a sequence of flight. The Instructor Rating is a good stepping stone into the Aviation Industry. A good way to build hours, gain experience, meet new people and if you are keen on working for an Airline, the Instructor rating is a well respected role in the Check & Training part of the airlines.

6 STEP GUIDE TO GETTING STARTED IN FLYING TRAINING AT THE ROCKHAMPTON AERO CLUB 1. Trial Instructional Flight If you are undecided about learning to fly and would like to test the water first, we suggest you take a Trial Instructional Flight or TIF. This flight is a completely obligation free abridged first lesson and costs only $130 in a Cessna 150, or $160 in a Cessna 172. You will probably be like most people and be completely convinced you want to continue, in which case the TIF will count towards your Private Pilot Licence (PPL) training. 2. ARN and Security Check Application An Aviation Reference Number (ARN) is an easy process to put you into the CASA system. The license application has to go through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and can take upwards of 6 8weeks. 100 points of identification (usually either a passport or birth certificate, plus a driver s licence) and 2 passport photos have to be brought into the Aero Club for certification, and the copies are then sent from the Aero Club to CASA along with your application. 3. Aviation Medical Examination A straightforward medical examination is required by all pilots and must be conducted by a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME). For a PPL a Class 2 Aviation Medical is required, and for CPLs a Class 1 Aviation Medical is required. In Rockhampton there is only one DAME who can do the examination: Dr. Michael Keating City Heart Medical Centre 105 East St, Rockhampton, QLD (07) 4922 4126 4. Aero Club Membership We require students to become members of the Aero Club by signing an application form and paying a fee. You will also require a passport sized photograph for the membership card. The application will entitle you to join us on a Friday night for a drink at the bar, as well as allow you to come to various competition days and events; but most importantly you will receive a reduced aircraft rate for your flying training. 5. Student Flight Training Books All students that start training at the Rockhampton Aero Club are required to purchase a Student Kit containing various instructional books and a logbook for your flying training. These books will be of huge assistance throughout the first part of your flying training and contain all the theory books required. 6. Book in and away you go! Ring the Aero Club and make a booking for your lesson. Your instructor will guide you through the remainder of your flying training. You are welcome to sign up for your membership and purchase your Student Kit at the time of your first lesson. \

We have family orientated club BBQ s on the 1 st and 3 rd Friday of each month commencing at 6.30 pm. Everyone is welcome.
