Your property is among the 53 World Heritage sites pictured in the agenda. Currently, 721 properties are inscribed on the World Heritage List, each one recognized as being of "outstanding universal value" to all humankind. Their protection today and for future generations is the responsibility of the international community as a whole. Based at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the World Heritage Centre, as the Secretariat for the World Heritage Convention, assists local authorities with promoting their own sites as well as with promoting the Convention in general. In order to do so, we can make available to you, for your own use or for further distribution, the publications represented in the table below (the availability and the cost of each publication is also provided). A few of these publications are also enclosed with this letter. Please feel free to contact the World Heritage Centre for further information or for orders. In addition, the World Heritage Review, a bimonthly magazine in English, French and Spanish, published since April 1996, is sold through subscriptions or in bookshops. It can be ordered directly from the publisher: Ediciones San Marcos, Alcántara, 11, 28006 Madrid, Spain, Tel: (34.91) 431 43 19, Fax: (34.91) 431 65 39, e-mail: suscripciones@ediciones-sanmarcos.com. The World Heritage Newsletter, distributed free six times a year in English and in French, features information on the latest developments at World Heritage sites and on discussions and decisions by the World Heritage Committee. In addition to the printed Newsletter, the Centre also maintains an electronic e-mail newsletter, distributed every 7-10 days, depending on the amount of news on hand. If you have e-mail capacity, you may subscribe to the newsletter by sending the single phrase "subscribe whnews" to majordomo@world.std.com. For more information, you can also write to the Newsletter Editor at the address above, or at wheditor@unesco.org. As you may know, the World Heritage Centre operates a web site at http://www.unesco.org/whc/. Apart from the basic texts and application forms relevant to the World Heritage Convention, the web site also contains a descriptive page on each World Heritage site. Each page contains the location, statement of significance of the site as determined by the World Heritage Committee, a brief description, and Internet links to other web sites that describe the World Heritage site. We can only provide a limited amount of information about each site; it has long been our belief that the site management authorities themselves are the ultimate source of the most reliable and up-to-date information about each site. As a result, we would very much like to know of your own activities on the web. If you have a web site, please send us the web address and the name and e-mail address of the person who maintains the information in it. (Contact person: Mr. Peter Stott, tel: 33 1 45 68 18 21, or e-mail: p.stott@unesco.org ).
