For Lease Travelers Rest Retail Shops GREENVILLE HEALTH SYSTEM SWAMP RABBIT TRAIL STUDY SHOWS $6.7 MILLION ECONOMIC IMPACT A December study of the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail showed that 25% of the users in the trail s third year were tourists who spent $6.7 million in Greenville County. The report, Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail Year 3 Findings was conducted by a Furman University team led by Julian Reed, associate professor in the department of health sciences. The report included a survey of 19 businesses in close proximity to the trail. Those businesses reported an increase in sales, some as much as 85%. $ 25% of trail users are tourists Economic impact of tourism on local economy $6.7 million Average time users spend on trail: 1.5 hours Most popular times of year: When temperatures are 61-70 degrees 76.3% of users were observed on weekends. Businesses hot on the trail Owners or managers of 19 retail businesses on or close to a trail access point were interviewed in 2013, including five retail bicycle shops. Two bike shops reported an average of 75% of their customers purchased bikes to use the trail in 2013. These two bike shops reported revenue ranging from $300,000 to $400,000 from trail users. The majority of the businesses surveyed reported increases in sales and revenue ranging from 10% to as high as 85%. One bike store that focuses on rentals reported that customers are: 50% local 30% from Spartanburg and suburbs 20% from outside areas, such as Atlanta One bike store owner reported that 75% of its employees are biking for around an hour a day, daily. For Lease Travelers Rest Retail Shops CHICK-FIL-A ROCKET SURGERY SWAMP RABBIT INN SWAMP RABBIT TRAIL "Construction on a new Chick-fil-A restaurant in Travelers Rest is slated to begin this summer, according to Travelers Rest city officials. Building Official Jamie Richards said plans for the project have been submitted and permits are expected to be pulled in June. Construction would be complete around September, Richards said. The nearly 5,000 square foot restaurant is slated to be built on Benton Road, near Wal-Mart and in between Arby s and CVS. The Travelers Rest location will be operated by Steven Bryant, the Chick-fil-A franchisee that along with his team operates the popular Chick-fil-A Cherrydale location... "Rocket Surgery, at 164D South Main St., is a new cocktail bar with snacks, full meals and brunch that will open in 2-3 weeks. On Monday, the owners of Sidewall Pizza announced the identity of their mystery project next to the Tasting Room and Farmhouse Tacos in Travelers Rest, a new cocktail bar called Rocket Surgery. Located at 164D S. Main St., the new spot will also offer snacks, full meals, and brunch and the best part is, it will open in two to three weeks, says co-owner Andy O Mara. We re not long-time chefs, says O Mara, who lives within walking distance of downtown TR. We just want to create a great place for people to hang out... -Upstate Business Journal, July 31, 2017 "Add a European-style inn to the businesses that have blossomed in Travelers Rest along the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail. Wendy Lynam, owner of the successful Swamp Rabbit Inn near the trail in downtown Greenville, is launching a sister inn near the trail in downtown Travelers Rest. She s calling it The Swamp Rabbit Inn TR, and it will be located in an historic house at 426 South Main Street, between a Hampton Inn and a post office. The property, which includes two other buildings that can accommodate overnight guests, has been operated as a bed and breakfast called Magnolia Inn since 2008...: "The Swamp Rabbit Trail has been so embraced by local bikers, walkers and joggers that it seems to have been embedded in this community...started as the Carolina, Knoxville and Western Railroad in 1887, it became the Greenville & Northern, surviving a century of lawsuits, injunctions, neglect, and ridicule before it ceased operations in 1997. It was known as the Swamp Rabbit Line because it rattled over shoddy and uneven tracks along the swampy banks of the Reedy River from downtown to River Falls.
