Programme co-funded by European Union Funds 2IssuedNewsletter DECEMBER 2017 nd IMPRESSIONS FROM THE FINAL NETWORLD EVENTS FOR 2017 NETWORLD International conference and the 2nd partner meeting took place in Bucharest on 27th - 28th of November. National Institute of Research in Tourism (INCDT), Romania was the organizer of this event. The conference ran under the title Tourism valorization of the First World War and other cultural heritage. After the welcome speeches of Mr. Victor Timotin from INCDT and Mr. Virgil Nitulescu from the Romania Ministry of Culture and National Identity, Ms. Vesna Kozar (Soča Valley Development Centre, Slovenia) and Ms. Maša Klavora (The Walk of Peace in the Soča Region Foundation, Slovenia) shortly presented the NETWORLD project to give insight on project aims and activities to conference guests. The first day was dedicated to World War I (WWI) heritage management with reference to its protection, promotion and marketing under the Walk of Peace common brand, perspectives for development and planning of sustainable cultural tourism in partners regions. There were 52 participants who have registered for the conference, showing great interest in the memorials, case studies and good examples related to WWI heritage and cultural tourism in Bulgaria, Italy, Romania and Slovenia. Belgian associated partner (European Cultural Tourism Network) presented how they are involved to promote cultural heritage on the European level. The second day - supervised by Soča Valley Development Centre, consisted of more reporting activities by respective WP leaders on implementation of project work packages (WPs), followed by lively discussions with the active involvement of all partners. The day was dedicated to collecting information on WPs advancement and to agree on next steps towards the successful completion of the 2nd project period. During the second day, the INCDT has organized also a study visit to the National Museum of Romanian History where a temporary exhibition of WWI was presented to the NETWORLD project partners.

By the end of the first year several progresses have been made in carrying out NETWORLD project activities. This newsletter provides an overview of the main activities performed and the results achieved during the 2 nd period of the NETWORLD project. Communication and Dissemination The project dissemination was carried out very actively by the project consortium at all levels. NETWORLD project partners and associated partners organised and participated in many international, national and local events like conferences, exhibitions and workshops, displayed informative posters and gave some feedbacks of the project to interest groups. Also, they aimed to sensitize the project target groups - mostly the younger generation and general public on the impact of the WWI and the importance of the historical events of the past.

Programme co-funded by European Union Funds 2IssuedNewsletter DECEMBER 2017 nd EVENTS IN SLOVENIA Concert of military orchestras - A farewell to arms" 9th July 2017, Kobarid, Slovenia Together with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia, Municipality of Kobarid and Kobarid museum LP and PP1 co-organized cultural event "A farewell to arms" in Kobarid on 9th of July 2017. Military orchestras from Austria, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Germany and Slovenia played together to memorise the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Kobarid and the end of the Isonzo Front. The honour speaker was the president of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor. Among 1.500 visitors there were many ambassadors, military attaches, stakeholders and WWI experts. Creative workshops and youth exchange June till August 2017, Solkan, Slovenia Creative Workshops for 270 children, aged 5 to 14 years, were organized in the summer months of 2017 by Soča Valley Development Centre, Slovenia in cooperation with the Sport society Sonček. With the help of mentors and volunteers and through various activities (plays, talking, creating, watching short films, and others) children discovered times from WWI that strongly marked the lives of children and families from that times. They talked about peace, and concluded the training with the idea that peace is a value and it is not self-evident. Youth exchange for 12 children from Sarajevo (BIH) was also organized in August 2017. The magnificent greenery of the Soca Valley nature and the daily sunlight additionally contributed to making these learning events a delight and an enjoyable experience for the children.

Creative workshops for the youth 20 th 22 nd October 2017, Tolmin, Slovenia LP and PP1 organized third start-up weekend in Tolmin, Slovenia where First World War Heritage (NETWORLD project) was one of the challenges. 21 participants were presented. The winner team of NETWORLD challenge is STULeT. STULeT is a business idea how to develop a mobile stand (electric tricycle) with souvenirs and memories of WWI. With electric tricycle they want to take advantage of mobility on smaller surfaces in order to get to the most visited tourist spots. Souvenirs from hundred years ago would be presented, especially military uniforms of the Isonzo Front. Tourists would have opportunity to be dressed in military uniform and would even been photographed in order to experience the times of WWI. Memorial event "Run for heroes" from Budapest to Kobarid and lighting candles for peace 24 th October 2017, Kobarid, Slovenia On 24 th of October 2017, when was the 100 th anniversary of the Battle of Kobarid and the end of Isonzo front, LP, PP1, Municipality of Kobarid, Ministry of Defence of Slovenia and Museum of Military History of the Ministry of Defence of Hungary (ASP 1) organized: lightening candles for peace and laying wreaths at the German, Austro-Hungarian and Italian military cemeteries, concert with Slovenian and Italian choirs, closing ceremony of Commemorative Run for the Heroes from Budapest to Kobarid, speeches of representatives of Slovenia, Hungary, Italy and Germany. One of the main goal of these events was to commemorate all the victims of WWI and to better acquaint the civilians with this period of military history. EVENT IN CROATIA Quiz competition on World War I - 1 st of September, 2017, Zadar, Croatia Quiz Competition on World War I was held on 1 st of September 2017 in Zadar, Croatia. There were 39 participants divided into 13 groups of 3 people and 40 quiz questions, related to WWI important facts - from the war events and battles to cultural events and innovations from that period. The winner was the team WW3 with 30 correct answers.

EVENTS IN BULGARIA XII International Conference - 13 th 14 th of September 2017, Varna, Bulgaria The opportunities for economic development and youth employment through creation of quality cultural tourism on the basis of WWI cultural and historical heritage in Danube countries were in the focus of VEDA presentation of NETWORLD project at the second day of the XII International Conference, organized in Varna in September, 2017. Hosted by Varna Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Regional Custer North-East, the conference was attended by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Bulgaria, heads of commercial departments in the embassies of Austria, Spain and Poland, representatives of the Ministry of agriculture, food and forestry of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Center for promotion of agricultural cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European countries, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Fisheries, the Medical University in Varna, many SMEs and NGOs. Interactive student seminar Cultural Heritage from the WWI - 3 rd of October 2017, Dobrich, Bulgaria Interactive Seminar Cultural Heritage from the WWI. Messages and Opportunities for more than 80 students from Shumen University Konstantin Preslavsky and the University of Management in Dobrich was organized on 3 rd of October 2017 by the Regional Museum of History, Bulgaria. Lectors in the event were some of the most prominent scientists and experts from the Ministry of Defense, State Archive, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, National Institute for Immovable Heritage and other national cultural and historical institutions. The presentations were on the WWI topic and the most popular places of memory, preserved in Bulgaria and abroad. The audience attention was focused on the modern interpretations of the war topic in tourism and the possibilities for presentation of WWI heritage in an attractive for the tourist s way. The interactive part of the seminar included creation of a message: on a white paper in the form of a swallow (a symbol of peace and hope) everyone left a personal message, inspired from the lectors words. The idea of the organizers was every participant to receive a paper swallow to take the message away.

Programme co-funded by European Union Funds 2IssuedNewsletter DECEMBER 2017 nd Dissemination Event for Students - 13th of October, 2017, Varna, Bulgaria Dissemination event for students was held at the Golden Sands Natural Park near Varna, Bulgaria on 13th of October 2017. Over 80 students from the Economic University Varna learned about the NETWORLD project and how a quality cultural tourism is planned to be developed by project partners, based on the WWI cultural heritage in the countries from Danube area. Several individual meetings were held with students and the accompanying faculty staff to find out further information how they can take part in the upcoming training and exchanges for young people. Informational Meeting for Educators - 7th of November 2017, Varna, Bulgaria Informational Meeting for Educators was organized by Varna Economic Development Agency in Varna on 7th of November 2017 in order to present NETWORLD project and Danube Transnational Programme to directors, teachers and experts from educational and training institutions for formal and non-formal education in Varna, Bulgaria. There were more than 40 attendees in the meeting who showed increased interest to project activities, especially to the creation of a database and training materials related to WWI. The participants expressed willingness to include children and students from their schools and kindergartens in interactive learning initiatives, games or competitions under the project activities named as Education and exchange.

EVENT IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA Open day at the 24 General Fair ZEPS 2017-5 th of October 2017, Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina Open day event of the NETWORLD project was organized by the Department for Development and International Projects of Zenica-Doboj Canton (IPA PP2) during the 24 General Fair ZEPS 2017 held on 5 th of October 2017 in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Open day event was aimed to present the NETWORLD project activities and to increase awareness on WWI heritage of the general public and younger generation in special. The Open day event of the NETWORLD project has been organized very successfully with the participation of visitors from schools, universities and other organizations who were informed about the NETWORLD project and different approaches in preserving the cultural heritage of the WWI in order to attract them to participate in the future project activities. EVENT IN SLOVAKIA International Conference Slovakia and World War I - 12 th - 13 th October, 2017, Kosice, Slovakia International Conference Slovakia and World War I was held in the Slovak town of Kosice on 12 th and 13 th of October 2017. The premises of the State Scientific Library of Košice were a venue of the conference, which aim was to educate the general public and especially young generation in the topic of the WWI. Experts from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovenia presented historical facts and statistics dedicated to combat activities and many personal stories, which described the effect of the war on the lives of civils and long-term changes of the society and country as a whole. The second day of the conference included also stories presented in the memorial places.

EVENT IN ROMANIA The Salon of the Romanian Research at the Palace of Parliament - 25 th - 27 th of October, 2017, Bucharest, Rumania Representatives of the National Institute for Research and Development in Tourism - INCDT Bucharest have attended the Salon of the Romanian Research, which took place at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest on 25 th - 27 th of October, 2017. "Designed in Romania" was the motto of the event, where the INCDT exhibited its latest achievements, offering all participants information about Institute current activities related to European and national research projects, including the NETWORLD project. EVENT IN HUNGARY Sergeant JUTASI Tour as a memento of WW1 Heritage in Veszprém, Hungary, 4 th August 2017, Veszprém, Hungary Sergeant Jutasi Tour has a great tradition, it has been established many decades before initiated by civil organizations. It aims to reinvent many cultural and military values found in Veszprém town and its surroundings. The Route goes through several spots which are reminders of a memento of the Jutasi Sergeant Training School as well. From the year of 2014 with the aim to establish a tradition, the Tour was renewed and reformed for youth generation at the age of elementary and high school children. In the last years the Tour on two types of distances was published and each time hundreds of students and families participated in it.

DELIVERABLE IN THE 2 ND PERIOD: INTERVIEWS WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND DIFFERENT EXPERTS ABOUT THE WWI HERITAGE NETWORLD partners worked on issues related to organization of interviews, to collect and summarize the necessary information for the creation of a database of the WWI cultural heritage in Danube regions. Each partner sought to reach a maximum of contacts with stakeholders in order to provide the most appropriate experts and information on the implementation of the project activities: DTP Database and DTP Strategy. Among 722 requested interviews by PPs, 299 interviews had been conducted. 2018 will be the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH 2018) The overall objective of the European Year of Cultural Heritage is to encourage the sharing and appreciation of Europe s cultural heritage, to raise awareness of our common history and values, and to reinforce a sense of belonging in a common European space. It is a pleasure to inform newsletter s readers that the DTP NETWORLD project has been selected to be labelled as relevant project on culture and/or creative industries for EU Year for Cultural Heritage 2018 (EYCH 2018). NETWORLD project has been labelled because it contributes to achieve one or more of the objectives of the Year, as laid down in Decision (EU) 2017/864 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 th May 2017 on a European Year of Cultural Heritage (2018). FORTHCOMING NETWORLD EVENTS Conference Borders as Result of War, Commemorating 100 years of WWI and Check Independence will be held in Town of Nove Hrady on 3 th 6 th May, 2018. WWI Expert Conference and 3 rd Partners Meeting will be organized in Zadar, Croatia on 11 th 12 th of June, 2018. Exhibition on Archduke Franz Ferdinand & the First World War will be held in Castle Artstetten, Austria from April to October 2018.
