Lungkata Walk After a short rest break, continue along the Lungkata Walk, where your guide will tell you the Tjukurpa story of the cheeky Blue Tongue Lizard! Mutitjulu Waterhole Walk The Mutitjulu Waterhole was once a valuable source of water for the Anangu. Here you ll see ancient Aboriginal rock paintings and learn about the Indigenous and European history of Uluru. Talinguru Nyakunytjaku & Sunrise over Uluru Simply translated, Talinguru Nyakunytjaku means to look from the sand dunes. The platform offers an incredible view through the dunes and stunning desert landscape as the sun rises over Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Make your way on to the viewing platform to see many kilometres into the distance, providing an ideal photo opportunity. Uluru Base Tour Once you ve experienced the amazing sunrise over Uluru and enjoyed a warming tea or coffee, you ll head towards the base of Uluru. Your experienced Driver Guide will join you on a coach tour around the base of Uluru and give you details on its geology and incredible history. You ll be fascinated by the Aboriginal stories that go back many thousands of years. Mutitjulu Walk You ll then head to the Mutitjulu Walk where your Driver Guide will lead you to the famous Mutitjulu Waterhole. The waterhole provided a key source of water for the Aboriginal people in the area and had been in use for many thousands of years. You ll see wonderful Aboriginal rock paintings and come to understand their significance. Uluru Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre The Uluru Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre houses an amazing collection of original ceramics, paintings and punu (woodwork) that provide an insight into the unique and spiritual culture of the Anangu, the traditional custodians of Uluru. You can take home your own unique piece of punu. Uluru Climb Uluru is a sacred site for the Anangu (meaning we the people ) and they prefer that visitors do not climb it. With this in mind, we do not recommend it. The climb is a physically demanding activity that can take up to two hours. When you stop at a viewing point that boasts the most spectacular views of Kata Tjuta, be sure to have your camera at the ready. Walpa Gorge Walk Walpa (meaning windy) Gorge is a lush desert haven for plants and animals. The gentle but rocky track will lead you into a world of rare plant species and lush evergreen shrubs known as Spearwood. Your Driver Guide will lead you on a one hour walk through the gorge, sharing stories of local flora and fauna, and the geology of this amazing formation. Wine & Nibbles After the Walpa Gorge Walk, you ll head off to the Uluru Sunset Viewing Area. En route, you may see some dromedary camels casually strolling through the park. Historic Overview On your journey, your experienced Driver Guide will share with you fascinating stories of the geology, history and culture of Kata Tjuta, which is deeply sacred to the local Anangu people. Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) Kata Tjuta simply translated means heads many and given the 36 steep-sided domes of Kata Tjuta, it is aptly named. This incredible formation of rock domes extends six kilometres into the ground and is the remains of erosion that began more than 500 million years ago. The area is sacred under Anangu men s law and under this law, details of many stories of Kata Tjuta are not known except to initiated men. Valley of the Winds On arrival at Kata Tjuta you ll commence the walk to the Valley of the Winds, heading first to the Karu lookout. With views across the many domes of Kata Tjuta and out into the sacred Anangu men s area, you ll be in awe of this natural wonder. Next stop is the Karingana lookout. This walk can be a little challenging, but well worth the effort. It takes you down into a timeless haven within the domes through trickling creek beds. At times of extreme heat the walk may not be available, but will be substituted with an alternative walk. Shorter walks are also available for those not wanting to walk to the second lookout. Drinks at Kata Tjuta Sunset As the sun sets over the western horizon you ll arrive at the Sunset Viewing Area.
