He served as Assistant Professor at The American University in Cairo (1991-1998), and was part of the Suhaymi Documentation, Restoration, and Conservation Project team (1994-2000). Dr. Swelim has participated in and been interviewed for several television documentaries, including Islam (Smithsonian World, 1987). Dear Traveler, It is with great pleasure that I invite you to explore the magnificent archaeological sites of ancient Egypt with AIA lecturer and host Tarek Swelim. You will learn firsthand about this extraordinary civilization situated at the crossroads of Africa, Asia, and Europe. Nowhere are there so many marvelous things, nor in the whole world beside are there to be seen so many things of unspeakable greatness. This program is a comprehensive introduction to a variety of Egypt's ~ Herodotus, Greek historian most important sites. In Cairo, tour the outstanding Egyptian Museum, plus the Giza pyramids and Sphinx, Saqqara's Step Pyramid of Djoser and the Pyramid of Teti, Old Cairo, and much more. At Luxor, your explorations include the vast temple complex of Karnak and the stunning tombs of the Valleys of the Kings and Queens. Cruise the legendary Nile aboard a luxurious riverboat from Luxor to Aswan, stopping to visit several remarkable temples and observing timeless pastoral scenes of farmers, herders, and village life. Aswan provides many highlights including a felucca (sailboat) ride and noted archaeological sites. From Aswan, take an excursion to the wondrous Temple of Abu Simbel with its colossal statues.
