Tasmania Australia s island state is the perfect place to cruise; whether on one of the world s largest most palatial ships, a small luxurious expedition vessel, a Russian built icebreaker or a super yacht. Your passengers will love the opportunity of exploring our vast waterways, calm channels, archipelago of islands and one of the world s deepest harbours, Hobart. Tasmania is roughly the same size as Switzerland, the state of West Virginia or twice the size of Vancouver Island. It is renowned as a place of great natural beauty, intriguing wildlife, fine food and beverages (including award winning whiskey, wines, beers and cider), culture and heritage. Your passengers can meet a Tasmanian devil, pat a baby wombat and feed wallabies and kangaroos a short drive from Hobart, and in the same day explore one of the world s most talked about Museum of Old and New Art (MONA). Mona is architecturally stunning and Australia s largest privately owned museum; it is a gift to the residents of Tasmania by philanthropist, gambler and art collector David Walsh. Tasmania has a living heritage found in Australia s most significant historic convict site, Port Arthur on the Tasman Peninsula and the Hobart Female Factory. The rich European history of Tasmania can also be found in many towns and villages, and interpretation of Tasmania s original indigenous population is also there to be explored. Over one third of Tasmania is protected as either World Heritage Areas, National Parks or State Forests; providing the opportunity for guests to experience true wilderness. Experiences can be by zodiac on a pristine white beach, sea plane into the heart of the World Heritage area, a walk in the forest at the Tahune Air Walk, or flying high on a zip line at the Hollybank Treetops Adventure. There is something for all types of cruise passengers. Agri-tourism, fine produce and beverages are bountiful, making for fabulous on shore activities as well as for provisioning ships. Tasting Tasmania s produce is a preferred activity of tourists; we have festivals around the island to celebrate our flavours, gourmet walking tours and meet the maker experiences. Around the state there are plenty of activities and tours available for shore excursions, catering to large or small groups. During the day, evening or overnight our tourism operators can assist in developing a program that is just right for you. Destination Southern Tasmania Cruise Tasmania Network 3

After enjoying Stanley s famous fish and chips, climb the winding path to the Nut s plateau for a spectacular 360-degree view and an aerobic workout, Stanley-style. The Park occupies most of the Freycinet Peninsula and looks out to the Tasman Sea from the eastern side and back towards the Tasmanian coastline from the west. Freycinet National Park is loaded with natural assets, including the pink granite peaks of the Hazards Range that dominate the Peninsula and the iconic Wineglass Bay. The short trek to Wineglass Bay lookout is a bit steep, but it s well worth it for one of Tasmania s most photographed views. There are many more short walks across the Park that are suitable for all abilities and that lead to secluded bays, clean beaches and bird-filled lagoons. For an excellent half day trek, continue on from the Wineglass Bay lookout down to the beautiful, perfectly curved beach and back to the Park entrance via the Hazards Range for amazing views of Great Oyster Bay and the coastline surrounding the sleepy seaside village of Swansea. Tasmania s East Coast Maria Island Destination overview Maria Island is a natural wildlife sanctuary and off-shore retreat with historic ruins, sweeping bays, dramatic cliffs and plenty of stories to tell. Located off Tasmania s east coast and accessible only by ferry, Maria Island contains the most intact example of a convict probation station in Australia. Tasmania s South Bruny Island Destination Overview Bruny Island has some of Tasmania s most beautifully preserved natural environments with abundant wildlife and stunning cliff top views. The island is about 50 kilometres long but appears to be two islands with North and South Bruny joined by a narrow strip of land called The Neck. This isthmus is an important habitat for native wildlife. A highlight is South Bruny National Park, with towering cliffs overlooking long sandy beaches, coastal heathland, underwater gardens of kelp seaweed and some amazing bushwalks to take it all in. The island is also a retreat for many rare and endangered plants and animals. And there s plenty of history to explore, from stories of the Aboriginal inhabitants who knew the island as Alonnah Lunawanna to later tales of discovery and settlement. Exploring Bruny can be as quick and easy as taking a spectacular half-day cruise around the island, though a longer stay reveals the many secrets of this special place and allows time to enjoy the famous local produce and attractions. Local highlights Walk the coastal track from Adventure Bay to Penguin Island and Fluted Cape Explore the rugged coastline and wild sea life including Australian Fur Seals in their natural environment Discover the fine produce from the oyster growers, cheese farm, berry farm and vineyard Marine and anchorage information Anchorage: Distance to landing: Pilotage: Landing facilities: Allowable vessels: Adventure Bay 1.2nm No Yes No size restrictions Southern Tasmania tourism contact Organisation: Destination Southern Tasmania Phone: +61 3 6223 5650 Email: cruise@southerntasmania.com.au Website: www.southerntasmania.com.au www.hobartandbeyond.com.au Adventure Bay Adventure Bay 28 Cruise Tasmania Network Destination Southern Tasmania

Recherche Bay Destination information During the late 18th century Britain and France were competing to chart and explore new worlds. The legacy of French explorers is found today in Australian places named after La Perouse, Freycinet, Bougainville and Esperance. The French visits to Recherche Bay were responsible for a wealth of new information about Tasmania that remains important today. Recherche Bay can easily be reached by boat. It is possible to land on the beach, but there are no walking trails through the area and it is best experienced from the water. The spectacular 142 ha coastal property extends the dramatic wild landscape of the Southport Lagoon Conservation Area, home to critically endangered bird and plant species. Local highlights View the swamp eyebright a delicate flowering plant that has only a single population of 50 individuals remaining on the planet See stands of mature Tasmanian blue gums, a species first discovered at Recherche Bay by Lalbilladiere in 1792 Recherche Bay provides habitat for several threatened bird species including the swift parrot, white-bellied sea eagles, grey goshawks and masked owls Marine and anchorage information Anchorage: Distance to landing: Pilotage: Landing facilities: Allowable vessels: Recherche Bay 1nm No No, tender to Lancaster Beach or Reynard s Beach Expedition Southern Tasmania tourism contact Organisation: Destination Southern Tasmania Phone: +61 3 6223 5650 Email: cruise@southerntasmania.com.au Website: www.southerntasmania.com.au www.hobartandbeyond.com.au Recherche Bay Destination Southern Tasmania Cruise Tasmania Network 29
