After Fred s locomotive was

inspected (this is the second year for this loco), a crew of friends brought it over to Leakin Park for a steamup. On the first trip around the main line, the loco ran light (engineer only), and was paced by the CALS electric loco running in the same direction on the parallel track. This first trip gave an opportunity to check out the operation of the loco and the condition of the track. It was also an opportunity to do some close-up video taping of the engine in operation. All seemed well after that first trip, so the string of Pullman cars was detached form the electric and hooked up behind Fred s loco. I suspect for a loco that size, even three heavyweight cars wasn t much of an effort. If there were twice as many people there, we could have hooked up twice as many cars and I expect the Niagara would have walked away with them. Here s another photo, with Fred himself at the throttle: 2
