We give our campers the chance to build confidence through skill building activities, positive developmental experiences and encouraging them to forge bonds with each other and staff. Campers experience a sense of achievement through opportunities in the outdoors and are welcomed to a physically and emotionally safe and stimulating environment. Here at YMCA Camp Greenknoll we raise the B.A.R. with our commitment to Belonging, Achieving goals and Relationship building. Our campers are able to explore creativity, team work and leadership in a wide range of physical activities that influence lifelong healthy living. They have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor environment where they develop an appreciation of nature. Campers also participate in a variety of activities, including instructional swim, enrichment, STEM, art education and others that are designed to build confidence and teach teamwork. Y-USA s new swim structure is designed with a skill-based approach to help children become independent in the water and build confidence. Week 7 7/30 Camp Show Campers will spend the week creating a one-of-a-kind performance, which they will present on Friday, August 3 rd at 3:30pm! Come for the show and stay for our family picnic! Week 8 8/6 Around the World Discover places around the world through games and activities. Are you clever enough to figure out where you are? Can you navigate through the jungle? Let s put your world knowledge to the test as we travel around the world. Week 9 8/13 Wild West Howdy y all! Will you join our party on our quest to the west? Grab your horse, grab your tools and get your gold bag. It ll be a hootin hollerin good time! Yeehaw! Week 10 8/20 Hollywood It s glitz, it s glamour, it s the Greenknoll walk of fame. Join as Greenknoll transforms into Hollywood as our summer send off. Will you be a famous actor in a movie or a singer with the summer s best hit? Don t forget to dodge those pesky paparazzi! Week 11 8/27 UnBirthday You have only 1 birthday each year, but there are 364 unbirthdays! Happy Unbirthday! Counselor in Training (CIT) Program Our counselor in training program is focused on developing strong leaders through discussion, observation and supervised child interaction. This is a program for 14 and 15 years olds serious about working with children and improving their leadership skills. CITs learn the value of teamwork, community service and decision-making through activities and mentoring. The most important part of the CIT program is the hands on experience they will have working with campers while being guided by the CIT Coordinator. Candidates are required to fill out a CIT application. Once the application is received an interview will be scheduled. CITs will have the opportunity to attend field trips. Field Trips will focus on building confidence, team work and fun. The CIT program will be limited to 25 CITS PER WEEK. Greenknoll Gators 2 Huckleberry Hill Road, Brookfield Contact: Sarah Basile, Head Developmental Age Group Coach E: sbasile@regionalymca.org P: 203.775.1077 The Greenknoll Gators Camp Swim Team is a great opportunity for YMCA campers to strengthen their swimming skills in a fun environment. The Gators will be led by members of the Mako Swim Club coaching staff and will swim from 4:00-5:00pm in the outdoor pool Monday - Thursday. Each week, swimmers will work on developing proper body balance and stroke technique. They will be introduced weekly to competition through fun team events that encourage personal growth through fair play, and all participants will receive a participation award at the end of the camp season. There will be optional swim meets held for the Gators periodically on Friday afternoons. A detailed schedule of those events will be available at the time of registration. Indoors, children have the opportunity to play board games, computer games, stay out of the sun and stay cool in our air-conditioned space. Children also have the space for small groups and individual play. Outdoors, children have the opportunity to participate in different activities such as ropes courses and team building (age requirements), music and nature, as well as use of the playground, sand, outdoor pool, and gaga pit. Children at Summer Club will also participate in YMCA Camp Greenknoll Fun Day Friday activities. The Summer Club at Greenknoll will also take field trips to several off-site locations, like Lake Compounce and Splash Down Beach, in addition to participating in several in-house field trip programs that provide workshops at our facility. Swimming Each Monday children are tested and placed in the appropriate swim level. During the week children are taught appropriately. At the end of the week children are retested, some children may remain at their level and some may up move up to the next level. Swim is offered twice per day, morning is instructional and afternoon is recreational. Some children, regardless of age may require a life vest. Life vests are given to campers based on their swimming ability, and in some cases their height. It is at the discretion of the Aquatic staff. Swim Instruction is taught by Red Cross Certified instructors. Field Trips Field trips include both off-site field trips, like Lake Compounce and Splash Down Beach, as well as in-house field trips where organizations like MadScience and the ClayPen come to our facility to provide interactive workshops and learning activities. At Grassy Plain Summer Club, summer is the time for ADVENTURE, EXPLORATION and FUN! Our FABulous program centers on three areas proven to impact kids development: Friendship, Accomplishment and Belonging. Our highly trained staff helps campers ages 5-12 realize that the Y is a place where they belong and can be themselves while trying new things, building new skills and making new friends. Campers are encouraged to pursue their interests through daily activities and theme weeks culminating with: an in-house special enrichment program or an inflatable amusement such as the ever-popular 18 water slide. There are opportunities to connect with nature and spend time outside being physically active participating in experiences that influence lifelong healthy habits and also opportunities to keep skills fresh all summer long with fun, engaging literacy and math activities. There are opportunities to foster campers creative abilities such as Art, Drama and Writing and ones to inspire wonder and ignite creativity through weekly STEM projects. But most importantly, there are opportunities to reconnect with the simple joys of being a kid: Swimming, Laughing, Singing, Dancing, Crafting, Discovering, Swinging, Sliding, Hiking, Playing and more! Friday they will enjoy the infatable waterslide! Week 2 7/2 Hooray for the USA This star-studded week will celebrate America s birthday with a barbecue, tie-dye, patriotic crafts and some really BIG GAMES! Week 3 7/9 Full STEAM Ahead Through various hands-on activities campers will explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. On Friday we will have a visit from Play-Well and campers will participate in a LEGO based enrichment program. This hands-on immersion will be full STEAM ahead for your imagination. Week 4 7/16 Under the Big Top Step right up and into this fun, exciting week of all things carnival! Circus Moves will visit us on Friday and campers will participate in a workshop where they will learn some circus skills such as juggling, clowning, hoops, plate spinning and acrobatics. This week is sure to be entertaining. Week 5 7/23 Child vs. Wild In this Survivor themed week, campers will use their cooperative skills to work together to overcome various obstacles and challenges. On Friday, campers will participate in an inflatable obstacle course and put their new skills to the test! Week 6 7/30 Animal Planet Campers will explore many different animals from the jungle, to the farm, to the dessert and more! Curious Creatures will visit on Friday to present an entertaining, and educational live animal show. Week 7 8/6 Beach Bash Week Campers will Splash into this fun week with some beach and water themed activities. Activities include Super Soaker Day, a water balloon toss and on Friday Oceans Rock will visit to present an educational and highly interactive program about the ocean and its inhabitants. Week 8 8/13 That s Entertainment In this fun, engaging week, campers will enjoy activities such as decorate your counselor day, Riddle Day, Rock Star Day, and the ever popular Jell-O Eating Contest! We provide a fun summer learning experience through the arts with a variety of week-long programs.
