Mining Delegation to the New Copperbelt, Solwezi, Zambia 20-22 June 2016 Get to know the Zambian North-West Province, the country s new copperbelt Explore market opportunities Establish and strenghten your local network
Zambia is a land-locked country, centrally located within Southern Africa. A BIP growth of more than 4% in the last years, lead to a steadily increase of the per capita BIP of the about 15.5 Mio. inhabitants. For the year 2016, estimations expect an increase of 4%. Zambia s grounds contain some of the world s highest-grade copper reserves. Currently, the local mining sector focuses on this commodity. Especially the area around the joint border with the DRC is known for its vast resources. Famous is the Copperbelt area, however, new developments can be found in the North-Western Province, also referred to as the New Copperbelt. Other important mineral resources are gold, coal, nickel and cobalt. Although Zambia s mining sector, like numerous other markets, suffers from the low commodity prices, the majority of players in the mining sectors have reaffirmed their investment commitment to Zambia and underlined the country's status as one of the most interesting mining destinations in Africa. Several new projects are expected due to the vast resources in the country. Investors are hoping to see regulatory hurdles, created by increasing government involvement, reduced over time. Opportunities arise from new developments, maintenance, the need for cost effective measurements and modernisation, as well as, mining related infrastructure and energy projects. The Southern African German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in conjunction with its newly opened Representative Office in Zambia, invites you to investigate the market during a delegation visiting the North-West Province around its capital Solwezi. The trip can be combined with a visit to the ZIMEC in Lusaka later that week. Extend your network and gather important market information!
