Walking and cycling to sites of natural beauty VINTGAR GORGE WHAT? A gorge through which flows the magnificent emerald Radovna River with its pools, waterfalls and rapids. There is a mighty, approximately 15-metre high Šum Waterfall, the highest river waterfall in Slovenia. STARTING POINT: parking lot in front of the gorge entrance, Podhom 80, 4247 Zgornje Gorje TRAIL LENGTH: 1.6km each way You can return on the same path or through the settlement of Hom to the historical church of St Catherine, from where a magnificent view opens to the Karavanke mountain range. The trail is 2.6km long and is quite easy. DIFFICULTY: an easy path, however, the trail leads over wooden footbridges that can be slippery; caution is advised. WHEN? From spring to autumn in dry weather INFO: www.bled.si, T. +386 (0)4 574 11 22 RADOVNA TRAIL Pocar homestead POKLJUKA GORGE, GORJE WHAT? A 2km-long gorge and 40 metres deep in its most picturesque part. Paths for visitors lead to the central part; the main path runs along the bottom, while the side path runs on the margins. Natural attractions: a side gorge, a spacious rock cavity, called the Pokljuka Hole, a large natural bridge 24 metres above the bottom, narrow and rounded plains, a small natural bridge. WHERE? Above the valley of the Radovna River WHAT? The trail leads through the Triglav National Park along the Valley of the Radovna River, from the village of Krnica near the settlement of Zgornje Gorje and past the Napoleon stone to the Pocar homestead in the settlement of Zgornja Radovna. STARTING POINT: Krnica Valley, bridge over the Radovna River TRAIL LENGTH: 16km each way DIFFICULTY: undemanding trail WHEN? Savica Waterfall WHEN? From spring to autumn INFO: www.bohinj.si, T. +386 (0)4 574 75 90 MOSTNICA CANYON AND VOJE VALLEY Stone elephant SAVICA WATERFALL WHAT? The most famous and visited Slovenian waterfall, 78 metres high with a smaller 25-metre-long segmented section. WHERE? Settlement of Ukanc by Lake Bohinj STARTING POINT: parking lot by the mountain huts Koča pri Savici and Dom Savica TRAIL LENGTH: 20 25 minutes each way DIFFICULTY: medium level difficulty trail on stone steps WHAT? Trip through the Mojstnica Canyon and beyond crossing meadows, past dwellings and hay sheds through the picturesque Voje Valley. By bicycle, access is possible on the road to the Slap Snack Bar, from where you can hike to the Voje Waterfall (approx. 10 min.). STARTING POINT: parking lot in the settlement of Stara Fužina TRAIL LENGTH: 5.9km each way DIFFICULTY: easy trail, 200m difference in height WHEN? Peričnik Waterfall 3km away. It is only a 5-minute walk from the Lower to the Upper Peričnik Waterfall. DIFFICULTY: easy marked trail from the village of Mojstrana. A short, fairly steep path (demanding marked path) leads to the Upper Peričnik Waterfall. WHEN? All year round; winter equipment is recommended in winter INFO: www.kranjska-gora.si, T. +386 (0)4 580 94 40 FROM PLANICA TO TAMAR PERIČNIK WATERFALL WHAT? One of the most famous Slovenian waterfalls, consisting of a lower waterfall, 52 metres high and around which you can walk, and the 16-metre high upper waterfall. You can also view Peričnik Waterfall on a hike along the Triglavska Bistrica Trail. This 10-kilometre trail leads from the entrance to the Vrata Valley to the end of the valley under the Triglav wall and connects the most interesting parts of the forest and other sights. STARTING POINT: 4281 Mojstrana TRAIL LENGTH: you can reach the starting point by car. Access is also possible from the village of Mojstrana, on a wellkept footpath along the left bank of the Triglavska Bistrica River. From there the mountain hut Koča pri Peričniku is only WHAT? Walk on a marked trail from the Planica Valley to the Tamar glacial valley. A slowly rising path leads through forests and panoramic meadows with a magnificent view of the high surrounding mountains. Zelenci are the natural springs of the Sava Dolinka River. The small green lake is a nature reserve and habitat of interesting animals and rare flora. The lake has a constant temperature of 5 6 C. WHERE? Between the settlements of Podkoren and Rateče STARTING POINT: parking lot by the main Jesenice Rateče road, near the Zelenci diner WHAT? A lower, 30-metre-high waterfall and an upper, over 100-metre high waterfall, consisting of four levels STARTING POINT: by the former Špik guest house in Gozd Martuljek (parking lot close to the bridge over the Sava Dolinka in Gozd Martuljek) TRAIL LENGTH: to the lower waterfall: 3km, from the lower to the upper waterfall: 2km DIFFICULTY: demanding marked trail WHEN? Dovžan Gorge DIFFICULTY: a less demanding panoramic trail, apart from the turning at the viewpoint, where you can take the easier variant WHEN? The picturesque gorge, through which runs the Tržiška Bistrica River, is a unique site to find remnants of petrified flora and fauna. As well as a walk through the gorge, you can visit the collection of rocks in the Exhibition and Educational Centre in the village of Dolina and the printing works of the Kokrški odred commando. WHERE? The gorge lies 2.5km north of the town of Tržič, by the Tržič Jelendol road STARTING POINT: parking lot right next to the settlement of Čadovlje TRAIL LENGTH: short circular 2.5kmlong trail, longer circular 4.5km-long trail WHAT? Viewing of blooming daffodils in the settlements of Planina pod Gorico and Javorniški Rovt WHERE? Near the town of Jesenice STARTING POINT: the settlements of Planina pod Golico and Javorniški Rovt are accessible by car, from where you can climb the nearby summits of the Karavanke mountain range. A themed path, on which you will discover three castles of Škofja Loka. The path begins at Škofja Loka Castle and continues to the ruins of the Upper Tower on Mount Krancelj. From there, you can take a pleasant forest path toward the sheltering foothills of Mount Lubnik and WHAT? Themed trail along the Rupnik Line, a defensive line with fortifications and bunkers built between the two world wars for protection against Italian attacks. The trail is educational, panoramic and equipped with information boards.
