Creator: Historical Note: John Lysaght Australia Ltd. The Lysaght family began producing galvanised products in 1857 at their factory in Bristol, England. During the last quarter of the Nineteenth Century the company exported considerable amounts of galvanised sheeting and wire to Australia. John Lysaghts (Australian) Limited was established in 1918 and production began in 1921 at Newcastle. In 1936 the AI&S sheet mill at Port Kembla was purchased from BHP Pty Ltd. The mill was closed down when Lysaght's Springhill works were opened in 1939. The company purchased Commonwealth Rolling Mills Pty Ltd in 1946. Theis collection consists mainly of a quantity of press clippings [some indexed] which deal with industrial matters generally, and were particularly, with industrial matters generally, and were particularly, with the development of Lysaghts' operations at Port Kembla. A register of industrial disputes and management/ Union conferences at Lysaght's for the period 1968-78 is also included. Printed aerial relates both to the company's history and to industrial management. A series of photographs related mainly to the expansion of the Springhill, and CRM complexes after 1947.
