Cruise Assistants Seasonal Posts - May 2018 to September 2018 Visit Belfast would like to appoint a number of Seasonal Cruise Assistants. The Cruise Assistant is responsible to the Manager of the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Visitor Information Centre (VBWC VIC) and the Cruise Ship Coordinator, or Ground Handler on duty, for the provision of on-shore ticket handling and customer service for cruise passengers arriving into the Port of Belfast by cruise ship. This season has 117 cruise ships docking. Visit Belfast intend to recruit a team of Cruise Assistants to deliver this service. Job Description POSITION: DEPARTMENT: REPORTING TO: Cruise Assistant Seasonal - On Call Zero Hours Contract Visitor Servicing Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Manager / Cruise Coordinator SALARY: 7.38 to 7.83 per hour PURPOSE: The Cruise Assistant is responsible to the Manager of the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Visitor Information Centre (VBWC VIC) and the Cruise Ship Coordinator, or Ground Handler on duty, for the provision of an on shore ticket handling and customer service for cruise passengers arriving into the Port of Belfast by cruise ship. This season has 117 cruise ships docking. Visit Belfast intend to recruit a team of Cruise Assistants to deliver this service. Cruise Assistants will be needed for approximately 83 ships. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Cruise Assistant is responsible for meeting and greeting cruise passengers and crew as they disembark the ship and are directed towards the shuttle buses. As some of the cruise ships this season will charge on board the ship for the shuttle bus service and issue tickets for the shuttle buses, your role will be to take the tickets off the passengers and crew as they disembark and queue for the shuttle bus. In the event that they do not have a ticket for the shuttle bus, you will take their name and cabin details. You will do this initially in the morning at the Port - Stormont Wharf. From mid-morning you will do the same for the return journey outside the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre (9, Donegall Square North, Belfast, BT1 5GB) where the shuttle bus departs to return to the ship. You will be responsible for answering any passenger s questions about the shuttle bus service as well as providing general tourist information about the city and the wider destination. DUTIES AND SPECIFICATIONS: Work with the Cruise Coordinator to ensure that all information is made available in advance of the cruise ships arrival. Keep a record of the number of people using the shuttle buses. Familiarise yourself with the shuttle bus timetables and daily What s On information sheets. 4

Take and record the number of tickets for passengers using the shuttle buses and record details as required. Ensure passengers and crew form an orderly queue. Crew should only be permitted to board the shuttle buses once ALL cruise passengers are accommodated. Provide records at the end of the day and hand both the tickets and forms to the Cruise Coordinator or Ground Handler as advised. Along with the Cruise Coordinator, monitor the shuttle buses to ensure that they are running on time. Feedback any concerns to the Cruise Coordinator or Ground Handler on duty. Submit weekly returns of hours worked to the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre Manager. The provision of any other form of service with which the post holder may be charged in accordance with the Visitor Servicing department s general activities. To communicate effectively with other Visit Belfast Departments to ensure integrated activity across the organisation. Support the team in the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with Visit Belfast s partners, sponsors and the industry as appropriate. Uniform. You will be supplied with a uniform with corporate Visit Belfast branding. The Cruise uniform will consist of branded polo shirt and rainproof jacket black jeans should be worn. Undertake other duties as required. HOURS OF WORK There will be three types of shifts for this role. The first type of shift will consist of an 8-9 hour day (including a 30 minute lunch break). Shifts will typically start at 08.00/08.30 and finish at 17.30. The second type of shift will be shorter and will typically begin at 09.00 and finish at 16.00. The third shift will be shorter, typically beginning at 08.00/08.30 and finishing at 11.00. The full cruise schedule is in Appendix 1 with highlighted probable days required. However, this may be subject to change. Any additional ships that require this service will be added to the list as the season progresses. Visit Belfast intend to have in place a team of Cruise Shuttle Assistants to deliver this service. Larger ships will need up to 3 people (2 for the longer day shifts and 1 for the shorter shift). Smaller ships may only need 1 to 2 people. There will be free parking at the Dock and employees can use the shuttle buses to get to and from the city centre. 5

Personnel Specification: Cruise Assistants (Seasonal) Essential Criteria Qualifications At least 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above, including English and Maths. Desirable Criteria Third level qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline. Relevant Experience One year s administration / clerical / customer service work experience. Experience working in the tourist information service / hospitality / Port / Harbour trade. Special Aptitudes Excellent written and spoken English. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work on own initiative, energy, enthusiasm and team player. A good knowledge of Belfast and Northern Ireland as a tourism destination. Excellent customer care skills, as well as a smart appearance. European language skills preferably German or French. Circumstances Available to work outside normal hours as required. Good flexibility and availability. March 2018 7
