Director AH City Manager COUNCIL REPORT DATE: 2 nd July 2013 File No: 5450-20 TO: Annette Antoniak, City Manager FROM: Anthony Haddad, Director of Development Services RE: Proposed Road Name Change Backstreet Boulevard STAFF RECOMMENDATION: THAT Council read Road Renaming Bylaw No. 2013-27 a first, second and third time. FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS: There are no financial implications to the City, as this road name change is being requested by the property owners. STRATEGIC PRIORITY OBJECTIVE: N/A BACKGROUND: Property and business owners located on the portion of Westminster Avenue East in the downtown core approached the City of Penticton with a request to change the name of the street to Backstreet Boulevard. The request was supported by the City s Heritage and Museum Advisory Committee and a recommendation made to Council accordingly. The proposed road name change was supported by Council, however it was discovered that the road name change would require a formal bylaw approval process. Staff are therefore bringing this back to Council for reconsideration. Notification of all affected property owners has been completed with the opportunity to appear before Council on this matter. ANALYSIS The proposed road name change has been requested by the owners and tenants of properties along the downtown portion of Westminster Avenue East. Staff are therefore recommending that the road name be changed as outlined in Attachment A, including Westminster Avenue East and the portion of Robinson Street to the intersection of Nanaimo Avenue. 5450-20 Individual Street Name Files\2013\Backstreet Blvd\Council\2013-07-02 Council Report.doc Page 1 of 3
