Saturday August 27th American River Trail Ride ~40 miles We will be hosting an away ride on Saturday, August 27 on the American River Trail, officially known as the Jedediah Smith Memorial trail. The ride will start at 9:00 AM sharp at the trail head in Discovery Park near Old Town Sacramento. The trail itself goes for 35 miles, so if you go to the end and back, it will be a challenging 70 mile day! We will plan to ride up the trail 20 miles and turn back for a total of ~40 miles. Anyone can turn back earlier or stop and catch the group on the return for a shorter distance. And of course anyone is welcome to go further for a longer distance. The trail is smooth, flat and scenic as it hugs the American River. Pace will be very moderate at ~15 mph. At the end of the ride, we can go a few miles more to Old Town Sac for some shopping and lunch. Bring money and a lock. The details: Start point: Discovery Park in Sacramento. Take I-5/99 north and exit on Garden Hwy. Take left on Garden Hwy and then right on Natomas Park Drive into Discovery Park. Continue towards the boat launch for more parking. Be at the trail head off Jibboom St at 8:50 AM for a ride briefing. We will take off at 9:00 AM sharp! It is approximately 60 miles from Brentwood to Discovery Park and MapQuest indicates 1 hour 20 min. Parking is $5. Ride Share: If you want to share rides to Discovery Park from Brentwood, meet at the Extreme Pizza on Balfour BEFORE 7AM. We need time to load bikes and would like to be on the road SHORTLY afterwards. Cost: Parking at the park is $5. Bring money for lunch if you will be joining. Safety: All club safety rules apply.
