Then, our representative will accompany you to meet the guide, who is waiting outside the arrival terminal. Start your exploration around 2pm with a guided tour of the some of the more fascinating corners of the Old Town of Siem Reap. Stop into Artisans Angkor shop, which is a showcase for Cambodian crafts with pieces inspired by Angkor heritage as well as fashionable handmade clothing and decorative items that can suit contemporary lifestyles. Cross picturesque Siem Reap River to Wat Damnak, a living temple with monks praying, a vibrant school and a colorful forest of stupa. Receive a special blessing from one of the monks, which includes the tying of a blessed string around your wrist. Walk back across the Pedestrian Bridge to the Old Market and your guide will lead you through the maze of undercover stalls selling fruits, vegetables, meat & fish, household goods and of course, lots of souvenirs! Watch the sunrise over the peaceful faces of King Jayavarman VII, which overlook every direction. Return to your hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, we drive to Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a forgotten city feeling. Your exploration continues with a return to Angkor Thom not a temple, but an entire walled city of 9 square km which served as the royal Capital from approx. 1181. With a population of 1 million, it was far bigger than any city in Europe at the time. The center piece is the Bayon temple crowned with 216 giant, enigmatic, smiling faces. Also visit
the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King, which houses almost perfectly preserved, detailed carvings. He has been working with the Angkor Temple Conservation Institution for many years and has a detailed knowledge of the temple s history as well as how they will be preserved in the decades to come. Take a stroll through the elaborate carved hallways of Angkor Wat as the Khmer empire is brought to life through the scholar s explanations of the various stories contained in each of the bas reliefs and murals. Surrounded by rice fields, it is a typical Khmer village. For 2 hours and around 2km, you will be given the opportunity to dive into the daily life of local people. You will learn more about HUSK NGO programs and visit the local Pagoda and school. These 2km could be one of the highlights of your stay in Cambodia, as a responsible visitor. HUSK works with communities to help improve the lives of Cambodian families. Their goals focus on the basics: safe water, livelihood opportunities, health, education and environment. HUSK have been established in Kompheim village for more than 6 years now. They have managed to create sustainable and healthy relationship within the community.
