Organizers Meeting Background The 34th International Specialized Symposium on Yeast (ISSY34), belongs to series of conferencesseries organized under the auspices of the International Commission on Yeasts (ICY). This year will take place in Bariloche, Argentin under the topic: Yeast Odyssey: From Nature to Industry. WWW.ISSY34-BARILOCHE.COM
The aim of ISSY34 is to bring together academic and postdoctoral researchers, industry scientists and graduate students working in the field of yeast biodiversity and biotechnology to discuss the latest developments in fundamental yeast research linked to biotechnological applications.
First time in Argentina, First time in Patagonia. This is the first time ISSY is being held in Argentina. A broad international and regional scientific organizing committee is behind this important meeting. The ISSY series are very international meetings and we expect to attract around 250 delegates from all over the world. As an example, the most recent ISSY meeting attracted 250 (ISSY32, Italy) and 300 (ISSY33, Ireland) delegates including speakers and session chairs. BARILOCHE
Meeting Location ISSY34 will take place in the beautiful city of Bariloche, on the north-west Patagonia, Argentina. Bariloche is located in the base of the Andes mountains, very close to Chile and is served by an international airport located 10km from the city center and conference venue.

The meeting itself is being held at the renewed NH Edelweiss Hotel WWW.EDELWEISS.COM.AR The NH Edelweiss is perfectly located near Bariloche dowtown and possess a great gastronomy and infrastructure. The sessions will be held in the Hotel Condor Auditorium, and there will be additional spaces for stands exposition (maps area available upon request).

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME The scientific focus of the meeting is Yeast Odyssey: From Nature to Industry. The topics of the meeting will cover: 1 Ecology and biodiversity of yeasts. 2 Bioprospection of extremophilic yeasts. 3A Yeasts in food and beverages: traditional fermentations. 3B Yeasts in food and beverages: industrial fermentations. 4 Evolutionary genomics and domestication of yeasts. 5 Industrial applications of non-conventional yeasts 6 Yeasts in Biorefineries. 7 Natural variation and applied opportunities. 8 Genetic and metabolic improvement of yeasts.
This programme encompasses the most exciting areas of current yeast research. The planned scientific programme comprises 4 keynote lectures, 9 plenary lectures and 32 slots for offered papers. We expect receiving over 200 poster presentations from all over the world. Overall the meeting topics are extremely relevant to the yeast biotechnology industry, notably the beverage and biotech sectors. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND SIGHTSEEING Undoubtedly the location selected for ISSY34 provides a unique opportunity for experiencing Patagonia, by far one of the most appealing tourist destinations worldwide.
