TECHPORT AUSTRALIA

TECHPORT AUSTRALIA Techport Australia - Australia s premier naval industry hub is located at Osborne in South Australia. The South Australian Government has invested over $300 million in state-owned infrastructure at Techport Australia to develop a world-class maritime industrial precinct. The facility will support ASC to deliver the Royal Australian Navy s next generation $8 billion Air Warfare Destroyers and will attract future naval shipbuilding and repair opportunities to the state. Common User Facility shiplift and wharf

FEATURES Victoria Road Techport Australia brings together a critical mass of high-end naval and defence expertise. Key features of Techport Australia include: > world-class common user shipbuilding facilities - including a wharf, runway, dry berth, transfer system and the largest shiplift in the southern hemisphere > an expansive, fully integrated industrial precinct for suppliers > a commercial and education precinct, including: - the Maritime Skills Centre - delivering the trade and technical skills required for the AWD project - the AWD Systems Centre - the national project headquarters for the $8 billion AWD project - Raytheon Australia s South Australian headquarters > access to the national transport network including road, rail and deep sea port > a high speed optical fibre network link to major research, defence and education sites across Adelaide. COMMON USER FACILITY Techport Australia features world-class common user shipbuilding facilities. The Common User Facility is a national strategic asset owned and operated by the Government of South Australia. The facility is spread over eight hectares at the heart of Techport Australia, and will play a key role in assisting ASC to build the state-of-the-art AWDs. It will also support delivery of future naval projects such as the assembly of Australia s next generation submarines. The Common User Facility provides flexible access to a range of companies, contractors and sub-contractors and indeed a range of projects in addition to the AWD project. It is capable of supporting multiple projects concurrently. Service duct Shiplift control building

The Common User Facility consists of three key areas: Wharf The fully serviced wharf is 213 metres long and 25 metres wide. It can support heavy load equipment and is capable of servicing an Air Warfare Destroyer through final outfitting, test and activation, harbour trials, sea trials, and maintenance and repair activities. Shiplift The shiplift is the largest in the southern hemisphere, capable of supporting a vessel up to 9,300 tonnes. At 156 metres long and 34 metres wide, it descends 18 metres into the water to launch ships. The shiplift s design incorporates the potential to expand to 210 metres with a 22,000 tonne lifting capacity. Runway and dry berth The runway - with embedded and separate dry berth - can support the consolidation of two AWDs concurrently. The runway and dry berth are supported by a rail-based transfer system enabling vessel movement around the site and onto the shiplift. The runway and dry berth are fully serviced via an underground service duct. This duct is over 700 metres long and contains high voltage electricity, potable water, seawater, fire services, communications and compressed air.

SUPPLIER PRECINCT Businesses establishing at Techport Australia will join some of the world s leading defence companies. Techport Australia s Supplier Precinct provides an outstanding opportunity for businesses to locate alongside the precinct s anchor tenant ASC - holder of both the AWD build contract and the Collins Class submarine through-life-support contract. Stage One of the precinct covers 14 hectares and is over 50% sold. A limited number of prime industrial sites remain, ideally suited for naval, defence and associated industries. Secure your site today alongside world-class companies including Pacific Marine Batteries, Ferrocut, Babcock, AMI Marine, Le Fevre Developments and National Crane Hire. This fully integrated and masterplanned development features: > flexible allotment configuration from 4700m 2 to 30,000m 2 > Torrens-titled allotments > flexible leasing options and turn key design and construction solutions > fully serviced and prepared sites ready for development. Babcock Pty Ltd The benefits of locating at Techport Australia are: > access to the national transport network - including road, rail and deep sea port > SABRENet high speed optical fibre network link to major research, defence and education facilities across Adelaide > clustering with other defence companies > development guidelines to ensure consistency of quality and sustainability of all developments. COMMERCIAL AND EDUCATION PRECINCT Techport Australia s Commercial and Education Precinct houses the Maritime Skills Centre, AWD Systems Centre and Raytheon Australia s South Australian headquarters. Maritime Skills Centre The Maritime Skills Centre provides technical and trade training for the AWD project and when capacity permits is also available for third party commercial training activities. The high-tech AWD Systems Centre at Techport Australia is the engine room of the nation-building Air Warfare Destroyer project one of the largest naval shipbuilding projects ever undertaken in Australia. The state-of-the-art headquarters of the AWD project houses AWD Alliance partners ASC, Raytheon Australia and the Defence Materiel Organisation and their capability partners. The two-level Raytheon Australia facility accommodates AWD team members including Hobart Class Combat System systems engineers alongside Raytheon Australia corporate functions. It has easy access to the AWD Systems Centre and is also fitted for future workshop, integration laboratory and warehouse developments. The precinct is linked via SABRENet, the state s high speed optical fibre broadband network, to all major education and R&D facilities across Adelaide. This includes the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, University of South Australia and TAFE campuses, plus Technology Park Adelaide, Edinburgh Parks and the Defence Science and Technology Organisation. Space is available in the precinct for further purpose designed and built office and office/warehouse accommodation. AWD Systems Centre and Raytheon Australia buildings

MAJOR PROJECTS Techport Australia - Australia s premier naval industry hub is home to some of Australia s largest and most complex naval projects. Air Warfare Destroyer Collins Class Submarines Between 1987 and 2003 ASC designed and built the Royal Australian Navy s current fleet of Collins Class submarines. In 2003, ASC signed a multi-billion dollar through-life-support contract for these submarines. A team of around 900 people now work on the maintenance and enhancement of the submarines. This will continue until the end of the fleet s operational life. Air Warfare Destroyers ASC is also the shipbuilder for the $8 billion next generation Air Warfare Destroyers. In its new $120 million shipyard at Techport Australia, ASC will fabricate, assemble, test and develop a through-life-support system for the Hobart Class AWDs. The three vessels will provide a major leap in Navy s air warfare capabilities. The shipbuilding project is having a transformational impact on the South Australian economy. Construction of the three AWDs is providing enormous opportunities for Australia s shipbuilding industry and creating important flow-on benefits for subcontractors throughout the country. Future Submarines Techport Australia will also be home to the massive assembly task for Australia s next generation submarines. The Future Submarine will provide the Australian Defence Force with a potent submarine capability beyond the planned withdrawal date of the Collins Class submarine. This will be a major design and construction program spanning three decades, and will be Australia s largest ever single defence project. Construction is anticipated to commence around 2016.
