The Need for Aerospace Personnel -Boeing estimates that over the next 20 years, the aviation industry will need more than 2 million new personnel -Specifically, Boeing estimated the aerospace industry needed 617,000 commercial pilots,648,000 maintenance technicians and 839,000 cabin crew over the next 20 years -RAND Corporation found major airlines will need 4,000-5,000 pilots a year after 2020 and regional airlines will need 7,000 pilots a year by 2021.
Why the need for more pilots? -Training costs for pilots are 2-3X with new FAA rules so costly to pay for training -39,620 new airplanes by 2035 -Emerging markets -5% global airline passenger growth Too few students are opting for careers in the cockpit, despite readily available jobs. By 2022, about 18,000 pilots in the United States will be aged out due to mandatory retirement.
