BLUEGRASS SAMS CHAPTER NEWSLETTER September 2012 The Bluegrass Sams gathered at Westward Ho Campground in Nashville, IN for their September campout. Members attending the campout were: Larry and Amy Downey, Tony and Sue Sims, Paul and Tiny Bowen, Bob and Linda Campbell, Mitchell and Sandi Smith, Jerry and Shirley Roberts, and Al and Ann Kelty. Special guests attending the campout were Bill and Jeanne Thornhill, Gene and Janet Roberts, Cary and Diane Hunt, and Mark, and Barbara Kessler. The weather was just about perfect for camping! The daytime temperatures were 60-75 degrees and the low temperatures were high 30 s to low 50 s. It was perfect for outside activities and setting around the campfire in the evenings.

The first night around the campfire, Amy decided to show us her striptease act as she got very warm in front of the campfire. Not to be out done, the second night around the campfire Al decided to demonstrate his striptease skills when he got to hot in front of the campfire. The third night around the campfire the Diva of Fanning, Shirley demonstrated her skills of fanning using a bowl in an unusual place and manner. None of the men were going to ask what she was fanning, and the other women were afraid to ask why she was fanning herself; but Ann K asked her if she was having a hot flash and Shirley said she was draining the water out of her bowl. Everyone else had a different idea! The fourth night at the campfire Amy started a game where each person was to add a sentence to the last person s sentence as we went around the group. It was an interesting story about two women who had a flat tire and a brown bear that died with a roll of Charmin toilet paper. You just had to be there. It was a funny and wild story.

Most of the camping group went to the outlet mall, flea markets in the area, antique shops in Nashville, and visited other small communities in the area. The group had a potluck dinner Friday night and a potluck breakfast on Saturday morning followed by the monthly meeting.

During the Chapter meeting Bill and Jeanne Thornhill and Gene and Janet Roberts were voted in as the newest member to the Bluegrass Sams Chapter. Congratulations to the Thornhills and Roberts, we are glad to have you as new members. Larry presented a draft copy of the revised By-Laws to the group and they were passed by unanimous vote. We finally got them done, YEA!! Each unit submitted their preferred list of campgrounds to visit next year to the Wagon Master. A tally was taken and the campgrounds were selected. Al will send an email out as-soon-as possible providing the official dates of the campouts, locations, and contact information. Tony and Sue volunteered to have the December meeting at their house at 4:00pm on December 8 th. It will be a potluck dinner, and Secret Santa will visit. Each person is asked to bring a gift for around $10.00 for Secret Santa if you want to participate in the gift exchange. On Sunday the many of rigs left Westward Ho in a convoy to the Fall Samboree at Richmond, KY. The convoy consisted of the Downeys, Campbells, Bowens, Sims, and Keltys. The Thornhills, J&S Roberts G&J Roberts, Bobsts and Bells joined the group at the Samboree a little later.

The Bluegrass Sams were the host chapter of the Samboree and did most of the work organizing the event along with the KY Good Sams State Staff and Traveling Thoroughbreds. The Bluegrass Sams was highly recognized for all the work we did in making the Samboree a success despite the rain and mud. The State Staff said they heard no complaints about the Samboree or the weather and heard many positive comments from attendees such as this was the best Samboree they had attended. Great job everyone! We all worked hard to make this a successful Samboree and that s why the Bluegrass Sams is the best chapter in the state! UPCOMING DATES: OCTOBER 19 th 21 st, 2012: Bluegrass Sams official campout at Taylorsville Lake State Park. Most of the group has scheduled extended dates, and the units planning to attend the campout are: Keltys, Campbells, Sims, Bowens, Downeys, Chastains, Thornhills, Smiths, and Maughans. If I haven t listed your name it may have slipped my mind or I m not aware you are planning to join us. Let me know if I have left you off my list. Since there are not a lot of places to eat at Tayorsville Lake, the plans are we will eat at Hometown Pizza on Thursday night, a Chinese potluck dinner Friday night (Ann is making her world famous Egg Rolls), Saturday a potluck breakfast at 10:00am followed by the chapter meeting. We were thinking about having an Italian potluck dinner Saturday evening but that may be a little too much after a big breakfast.

Does anyone have any suggestions? We could just do finger foods or something lighter. Let us know. NOVEMBER 9 TH 11 TH, 2012: The Bluegrass Sams official campout is at Whispering Hills Campground in Georgetown, KY. The units planning to attend the campout are: Keltys, Downeys, Sims, and Maughans. If I haven t listed your name and you are planning to attend this campout let me know. DECEMBER 8 TH : The Bluegrass Sams will meet at the Sims house in Frankfort, KY at 4:00pm for a potluck dinner, meeting and Secret Santa. BELATED BIRTHDAY ANNOUNCEMENT: Tiny Bowen s birthday announce was accidently missed in the September newsletter. We would like to wish her a belated Happy Birthday, her birthday is on Sep 3. OCTOBER S BIRTHDAYS: Gene Roberts Oct 14 th, and Sandi Smith Oct 17 th. OCTOBER S ANNIVERSARIES: Al and Ann Kelty Oct 23 rd. UNDER THE WEATHER: Charlotte Hunt is still recovering from her hip replacement. Linda Jo Bell isn t felling well but did attend the Samboree. Medical issues are a private matter and with respect to those who have the medical issues, they will not be discussed in this forum. A prayer for everyone s speedy recovery will be appreciated. ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Gary and Bonny Chastain have gone to Canada, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland. THE NEW WORED OF THE MONTH: Achume (ach ume) it s a spicy word to say assuming. Editor: Scoop Kelty Photographer: Flash Downey
