MERIT BADGES OFFERED 2011 ARCHERY TIMES OFFERED: 9, 11 am, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Archery Range RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year campers and older All requirements may be finished at camp. Requirement 4 requires shooting a qualifying score. Arrow kit, bow string kit (available at the Trading Post) Scouts should anticipate about $5 in materials costs. ASTRONOMY TIMES OFFERED: 9 am RECOMMENDED FOR: Scouts who have completed the 7th grade. Requirement 6, sketch the position of a planet each week for 4 weeks cannot be completed at camp. Sketch paper and pencils. Monday and Tuesday night star study sessions will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 pm BASKETRY TIMES OFFERED: 10, 11 am, 2, 3 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Pavilion None Basketry materials (available at the Trading Post) Scouts should anticipate about $10 in materials costs. CAMPING TIMES OFFERED: 2, 3 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: Second year campers and older who have earned First Class Rank Requirement 9 (20 night camping) cannot be completed at camp Backpack Scouts may bring a note signed by his scoutmaster indicating completion of 20 nights of camping. Only one year of long term camping (Geiger) may be counted.

Visit to a public meeting cannot be met at camp. Paper and pencil Requires the scout to visit a public meeting. Check requirements. This cannot be done at camp. CLIMBING TIMES OFFERED: 3 to 5 pm LOCATION: Climbing Tower RECOMMENDED FOR: Scouts 13 and older Completion of a CPR course prior to camp is recommended. Leather gloves Sign-up on Sunday at the Dining Hall. Sign-up start at 5:30 pm. Space is limited COMMUNICATIONS TIMES OFFERED: 9 am, 2 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year campers and older Requirement 5 cannot be completed at camp. Visit to a public meeting cannot be met at camp. To complete this badge the scout must attend a public meeting as stated in requirement 5. To complete this requirement the scout needs to present documentation to a counselor. The workbook from meritbadge.org can be useful. COOKING TIMES OFFERED: 2, 3, 4 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: Second year campers and older Must have cooked a breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a kitchen at home. Scouts may bring a note indicating completion of this requirement from a parent or scoutmaster. CRIME PREVENTION TIMES OFFERED: 2, 3, and 4 pm LOCATION: Goetz Lodge Patio RECOMMENDED FOR: Any scout Requirement 2 cannot be completed at camp. Both Crime Prevention and Fingerprinting are covered during this activity period. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS TIMES OFFERED: 9, 10 am RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year camper or older Scouts will need an emergency kit. Necessary items are listed in the Merit Badge Pamphlet. First Aid merit badge is required. Can be taken simultaneously. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE TIMES OFFERED: 10 am to noon, 3 to 5 pm Paper and pencil The Boy Scout Field Book is a helpful resource. FINGER PRINTING TIMES OFFERED: 2, 3, and 4 pm LOCATION: Goetz Lodge Patio Paper and pencil Both Crime Prevention and Fingerprinting are covered during this activity period. FIRST AID TIMES OFFERED: 2, 4 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: 1st Class Scouts and above Scouts must have earned their 1st Class Rank. Requirement 2b (Prepare a First Aid Kit for your home) must be competed before camp. Bring the First Aid Kit for review. CPR requirement will be completed as part of the activity.

FISH & WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT TIMES OFFERED: 4 pm Paper and pencils. Due to summer weather the best time for fishing is in the early mornings. Each scout is to catch, clean and cook a fish. Fishing time will be from 5:30 to 7 am at the Lake on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is taken with Fishing Merit Badge. Class is limited to 24 participants. FISHING TIMES OFFERED: 4 pm None All fishing gear will be provided. Do not bring your own. Due to summer weather the best time for fishing is in the early mornings. Each scout is to catch, clean and cook a fish. Fishing time will be from 5:30 to 7 am at the Lake on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is taken with Fish & Wildlife Merit Badge. Class is limited to 24 participants. FORESTRY TIMES OFFERED: 2 pm. Paper and pencil, MB Pamphlet Helpful materials would include a spiral notebook and a tree identification guide. Forestry is offered with Insect Study. Check each of the other badges for preparation needed. INDIAN LORE TIMES OFFERED: 10, 11 am, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Between Goetz and Swimming Rock Lodges RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year camper or older Indian Lore kits are available for $20 at the Trading Post. Cost may vary based on what the Scout wants to make. The museum requirement is met at camp.

INSECT STUDY TIMES OFFERED: 2 pm Requirement 7 cannot be completed at camp. Raise an insect through the stages cannot be completed at camp. Sketch paper and pencil Insect study is offered with Forestry. Check each of the other badges for preparation needed. LAW TIMES OFFERED: 10 am, 3 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Lodge LEATHERWORK TIMES OFFERED: 9, 11 am, 2, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Pavilion Scout should anticipate between $5 and $15 for projects. These can be purchased from the Trading Post. LIFE SAVING TIMES OFFERED: 9 to 11 am LOCATION: Pool RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year campers and older Must have earned Swimming Merit Badge. A 440 yard qualifying swim will be required the first day of the activity. Only strong swimmers will be able to qualify for this badge. Completion of the CPR course prior to camp is recommended. Long-sleeved buttoned shirt, long pants, belt, shoes, socks, and towel in good repaired are required. There will be CPR training on Monday night. Can be replaced with CPR training card or other documentation.

MAMMAL STUDY TIMES OFFERED: 10 am, 4 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Pavilion RECOMMENDED FOR: Any ACTIVITY FEE: METAL WORK TIMES OFFERED: 9, 10, 11 am, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Octagonal Pavilion RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year camper None, only the forging option is being offered fo this merit badge this summer. ACTIVITY FEE: There is a $10 fee to cover materials. Campers, including adults, not taking the class may try their hand at making a piece for $2 each when time permits. Number of participants is limited to 6 per period. Older scouts Life and above that have not taken the badge will get priority. NATURE TIMES OFFERED: 9 am, 2 pm pencil, and paper ORIENTEERING TIMES OFFERED: 3, 4 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: First Class scouts and above Compass and hiking boots May bring a GPS unit. Must be available for the orienteering scoreo-course on Tuesday evening. PERSONAL FITNESS TIMES OFFERED: 9, 11 am, 4 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year campers and above Requirement 1b and 8 cannot be completed at camp. Requirement 1b (dental examination) can be met by a note from the

Scoutmaster or parent. The 12 week requirement cannot be completed at camp. An exercise record can be presented. Tennis shoes, paper, and pencil Requirement 8 requires a record of training completed over a 12 week period. A record form can be obtained from www.meritbadge.org PERSONAL MANAGEMENT TIMES OFFERED: 10 am, 2, 3 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year camper or older This merit badge requires a 13 week budget record. This requirement can be completed prior to camp. Paper and pencil A budget form can be found at www.meritbadge.org which can be completed prior to camp and brought with the scout. PIONEERING TIMES OFFERED: 3 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: First Class Scouts and above POTTERY TIMES OFFERED: 9, 11 am, 2, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Sketch paper and pencils ACTIVITY FEE: $2.00 Sculpture is not offered with pottery. REPTILE AND AMPHIBIAN STUDY TIMES OFFERED: 11 am, 4 pm Requirement 8 cannot be completed at camp. Requires either raising a reptile or long term observation of one. To complete this requirement documentation must be presented to the counselor. Sketch paper, and pencil

Scouts will be handling live animals, including snakes RIFLE SHOOTING (.22 CAL) TIMES OFFERED: 9, 10 am, 2, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Rifle Range RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year campers and older ACTIVITY FEE: $5.00 Limited to sixteen Scouts per activity period. Preference will be given to older Scouts. Sign-up for this on Sunday at 5 pm. ROWING TIMES OFFERED: 10 am to noon LOCATION: Lake Front RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year camper or older Must have passed the swimmer test when entering camp SCUBA DIVING TIMES OFFERED: 3, 5 pm LOCATION: Pool RECOMMENDED FOR: age 14 by January 1 of year attending Must have Swimming Merit Badge Completed PADI Consent and Health $45 Open water dives cannot be completed. Check program description for more information. SCULPTURE TIMES OFFERED: 9, 11 am, 2, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Building s This has been changed to a single offering. It can be completed during the week. SHOTGUN SHOOTING TIMES OFFERED: 9, 10, 11 am (subject to change) LOCATION: Shotgun Range RECOMMENDED FOR: 3rd year campers and older

ACTIVITY FEE: $15 Limited to 8 Scouts per activity period. Preference will be given to older Scouts. Sign-up for this on Sunday at 5 pm. The time could be changed due to staffing issues. Notice will be given at the pre-camp meeting if the time is to be changed. SPACE EXPLORATION TIMES OFFERED: 2, 3 pm Estes Alpha Model 3 rocket kit $10 - $20 Model rocket kits are available from the Trading Post at a cost of $12. A8-3 single flight rocket engines are furnished. SWIMMING TIMES OFFERED: 10 am to Noon, 2 to 4 pm LOCATION: Pool RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year campers and older The Scout must attain Swimmer classification during the Sunday swim check Long-sleeved button-up shirt, jeans or fatigues. All items must be in good repair and hold air. There will be CPR training on Monday night WEATHER TIMES OPED: 10 am, 3 pm Sketch paper, and pencil WILDERNESS SURVIVAL TIMES OFFERED: 3 to 5 pm RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year campers and older Sleeping bag, clothing suitable for spending the night in the open, pocket knife, supplies for survival kit

Scouts will participate in one over-night away from campsite. This is done on Tuesday. WOODCARVING TIMES OFFERED: 9, 10 am, 2, 3, 4 pm LOCATION: Handicraft Pavilion RECOMMENDED FOR: 2nd year camper or older Scouts may bring their own pocket knives and sharpening stones. Project materials and leather gloves (gloves are furnished but the Scout can bring his own) Carving pieces are available at the Trading Post from $5. The cost will vary based on the Scout s selection.
