THROUGH LA GUANCHA AND ICOD DE LOS VINOS STARTING POINT LA GUANCHA AND ICOD DE LOS VINOS On our route through La Guancha and Icod de los Vinos we will be visiting two of Tenerife s northwestern municipalities characterized by their agricultural landscapes and verdant hills of Canarian pines. Visitors will discover that these two cities are replete with art and history and afford spectacular views of Mount Teide and the Atlantic Ocean. Our route takes us through the most picturesque corners of La Guancha, beginning at its origins, the Barrio of Santa Catalina. Agriculture has been the driving economic force in this municipality, which extends from the slopes of Mount Teide all the way down to the coast. Its rural characteristics are reflected in the numerous plantations which include vineyards and potatoes as well as fruit tree orchards among others. La Guancha is also well-known for its craftworks such as pottery, fretwork and basketry. Icod de los Vinos is an important agricultural municipality in which an intense commercial activity has been developed as well. Its origins date back to the 15th century, although it was also an important population center for the indigenous people during the pre-hispanic era. The historic center, declared Heritage of Cultural Interest, is understably of important historic and artistic value. Exploring its streets will allow the visitor to contemplate its emblematic buildings and enjoy the tranquility of its parks and squares.
