Pedestal Preparation-For Field Installed Adapter Kits 1. Box drawer removal Pull drawer out until it stops. Press in on lock catch spring and at the same time pull out on drawer. As drawer approaches the end of the case channel, lift up on the drawer head (see dotted lines). BACK FLANGE DRAWER HEAD LOCK CATCH (EACH SIDE OF DRAWER) CASE CHANNEL CRADLE FILE DRAWER HEAD 2. When removing file drawers from pedestal, the cradle assembly must be removed with the drawer at the same time. Store the drawer on the front face to prevent grease damage on carpet etc. To re-install, file drawer must be seated into cradle assembly then re-installed into pedestal. This is done to insure proper drawer alignment and ease of operation. Installer should wipe any excess grease from exterior of cradle prior to reassembly. 3. Remove file drawer cradle suspension by pulling all the way out, until the bumper makes contact with the suspension. Lift up on front of cradle. 4. Front Lock System Removal 5. Bend out tabs on the lock rod retainer and remove from top cross piece. Bend locking tab on front frame in direction of arrow. Raise up on lock bar to disengage tabs and remove entire lock system. NOTE: The parts for the front lock system are no longer required. If this pedestal is to be returned to the improved system, remove the entire lock system. 6. Remove the lock catches from the old lock bar. Replace Lock Catches 7. Choose the longer lock bar for the 4 high (25 overall) or the shorter lock bar for the 3 high (19 overall) pedestal. The other lock bar may be discarded. Lay the lock bar (removed in step 5), alongside the proper lock bar received in the adapter kit. LOCK CATCH OLD LOCK BAR NEW LOCK BAR LOCK CATCH 8. Replace the lock catches in their corresponding positions in the new lock bar. 4 of 9
Lock Bar Installation 9. Choose the longer lock rod for the 30 deep pedestals and the shorter lock rod for the 25 deep pedestals. The other lock rod may be discarded. Set lock rod assembly to reference dimension. Attach lock rod assembly to new lock bar. 10. Install the lock bar to the rear upright by engaging the bottom tab first, then the top. Install Rear Hanger 11. Install rear hanger to pedestal with (2) machine screws and nuts. REAR HANGER MACHINE SCREWS NUTS 12. Install Pedestal Cover Choose the proper depth pedestal cover; the larger for the 30 deep pedestals, the smaller for the 25 deep pedestals. The remaining cover may be discarded. Install the proper pedestal cover. Use a piece of tape to keep cover in place while installing the pedestal worksurface. IMPROVED COVER TAPE NOTE: This completes the pedestal preparation. 6 of 9
Installation Of The Pedestal To The Worksurface 1. Install adapter to worksurface lock rail with (2) 1/4-20 x 3/4 screws, square with the worksurface and up tight with the end panel. Install Pedestal To Pedestal Hanger Bracket 2. Hook the rear hanger tabs into the pedestal hanger slots. Lift front of pedestal slowly, making sure that the tabs and slot engage. TABS SLOTS HANGER HANGER FLANGE Install Pedestal To Adapter 3. Lift the front of the pedestal to engage the studs in the adapter with the slots in the pedestal top cross rail. Lock Rod Installation NOTE: Make sure that the lock bar assembly is engaged with slots in the pedestal rear upright. 4. Turn lock to unlocked position. Insert L shaped end of lock rod thru slot in adapter and engage with hole in lock rail. Be sure the hole in the lock rail is engaged, (test by rotating the key thru its 180 travel). Bend the tab on the pedestal adapter over the lock rod to retain the lock rod in the lock rail. UNLOCKED POSITION LOCK ADAPTER BEND TAB OVER LOCK ROD LOCK ROD 5. Lock rod adjustment Re-install bottom drawer. Before installing top drawer, turn key to unlocked position to determine if lower drawer(s) open. If not, rotate lock rod adjuster counter clockwise just enough to lock drawers. NOTE: For version one file conversion, see installation direction 93-9501087. 9 of 9
