LEADER S GUIDE Central Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America Welcome to the 2018 Camp Card Sale! Selling Camp Cards is an easy no risk way to teach Scouts the value of earning their way. Going to camp is the highlight of every Scout s year. Shouldn t they understand the value of that experience? Thank you for investing the time and energy to lead your Scouting Unit s 2018 Camp Card Campaign. This sale plays an essential role in allowing you to generate the funds for your Unit, and to send your Scouts to camp this summer. Imagine being able to pay for a MAJOR portion of what your Unit does for an entire year with Camp Card profits. Trips camp outs trainings advancements blue & gold banquets...courts of honor trailers uniforms day camp...resident camp summer camp! Last year, Scouts in the Central Florida Council earned close to $280,000 to fund their Scouting adventure. Our goal is to give each Cub Scout, Boy Scout, and Venturer the opportunity to earn the money needed to have the best unparalleled Scouting summer ever! Community Partners Bass Pro Shops, Dick s Sporting Goods, Ace Hardware, Sonny s BBQ, Jeremiah s Ice, and Buffalo Wild Wings have offered generous one-time discounts that make the sale of this card a no-brainer. Additional community partners like BJs Brewhouse Restaurant, Skeletons, Papa Johns, Jiffy Lube, Legoland, Merlin Entertainment, Medieval Times, Auto Zone, Tijuana Flats and Sweet Frog Frozen Yogurt have offered discounts that are redeemable multiple times year round. Take advantage of this partnership to help your Scouts get to camp!

Leading your Unit to the best year of Scouting! Remember we are selling the Scouting program, not the card. Selling camp cards as a fundraiser enables a Unit to have the funds to deliver their program. We are selling Scouting, and people will buy if asked. The majority of people have never been asked to buy Camp Cards. People need to know why Scouts are selling Camp Cards what is the reason? Why should I buy? Pay for camp Philmont Trip or National Jamboree New equipment CAMP CARD CHAIRS: Explain the Camp Card program to your adult leaders: Recruit one or more parents as Assistant Chairs as needed Establish Unit s Sales Goal and Plan Sales Activities. Prepare Timetables. Set Up Sales Coverage Areas. Help find locations and coordinate Storefront Sales. Prepare handouts for Unit Kick-Off meeting for Leaders, Parents & Scouts: Time line showing sale dates, date request is due, time & place for pickup, and card distribution. Unit goal and per boy sales goal. Storefront sale sign-up sheets with date, time and locations of Storefront Sales. Download unit kickoff presentation: http://cflscouting.org/council/2018-camp-cards/ Arrange to pick-up more Camp Cards at Scout Office if needed. If your Unit sells all the Camp Cards you requested and would like to sell additional cards we will try our best to make sure you receive more cards to sell. Need more cards order them at paycampcard.cflscouting.org. Remind your Scouts of money due dates. Make sure checks are made payable to the Unit itself. Collect and tally money from Scouts and submit payment at campcard.cflscouting.org by Saturday, April 28, 2018. Submit Scouts for Sales Contests (Top Salesman and Scouts who sold 125 Camp Cards or more). Update your Unit each week on sales total (post results at Unit meeting place). Camp Card Chairs are organized with lots of energy, creative and an excellent communicator! HOW THE CAMP CARD SALE WORKS: Step 1 Estimate the number of cards your Unit will need to sell to meet your Unit s goals. You should also refer to the total number of cards sold in 2017. You may pick up more cards once you settle a minimum of $3 per additional card received. We will have a limited reserve of cards at the Council Office. For your 2017 sales figures contact your District Executive. (Remember you can return any unsold cards per our Return Policy). 2

Leading your Unit to the best year of Scouting! HOW THE CAMP CARD SALE WORKS cont: Step 2 Help each Scout in your Unit set a personal goal. Add them all up to a Unit goal. Make a chart and display at your meeting location. Step 3 Pick up your cards at the Kickoff for distribution to Scouts. Step 4 Distribute the cards to the Scouts and encourage them to sell. Have parents take them to work; Schedule time in front of a local store as a Unit. Ask all of your friends and neighbors. This card is a great value and will virtually sell itself. The Camp Card sale is an opportunity for youth to earn money to pay for their camping fees and equipment by selling a value enhanced discount card. Each card contains discount offers from different vendors (most can be redeemed multiple times) that are good during the 2018 calendar year. The cards sell for $5.00 with the youth earning up to 40% ($2.00) commission on each card sold. Camp La-No-Che is located along the southern edge of the Ocala National Forest, nestled on the shores of beautiful Lake Norris. Camp La-No-Che has many exciting programs, features outstanding facilities, and some of the best trained staff in the southeast. Camp La-No-Che is an increasingly popular choice among Troops from other councils and even other countries. Activities include: the Adventure Tower, Zip Line, the Native American Village Programs, Merit Badge Programs and more! National Youth Leadership Training NYLT is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. The NYLT course centers around the concepts of what a leader must BE, what he must KNOW, and what he must DO. The key elements are then taught with a clear focus on HOW TO. The skills come alive during the week as the patrol goes on a Quest for the Meaning of Leadership. NYLT is a six-day course. Content is delivered in a troop and patrol outdoor setting with an emphasis on immediate application of learning in a fun environment. Interconnecting concepts and work processes are introduced early, built upon, and aided by the use of memory aids, which allows participants to understand and employ the leadership skills much faster. Cub Halloween Weekend Family Camping: This event is designed for Cubs and the entire family to be able to celebrate all that is Halloween! A Scout is Safe! Tips for safe Selling. How to sell Camp Cards Your job as Camp Card Chair is to teach your Scouts how to sell. Employ all three sales methods listed below. Create a plan and train your Scouts in all three methods; this will give you the best results. 1. Door to Door: Take your cards for a trip around the neighborhood. Highlight the great coupons! 2. Show & Sell: Set up a sales booth and sell Camp Cards on the spot. This can be an effective approach in the right location at the right time, but don t hang your hat on this approach alone. Focus on multiple locations at the same time. Be sure not to over schedule Scouts. 3. Sell at Work: A great way for parents to help their Scout. Have Mom and Dad take the cards to work. Safety and Courtesy Be sure to review these safety and courtesy tips with your Scouts and parents. 1. Sell with another Scout or with an adult. 2. Never enter anyone s home. 3. Never sell after dark, unless with an adult. 4. Don t carry large amounts of cash. 5. Always walk on the sidewalk and driveway. 6. Be careful of dogs while selling. 7. Say thank you whether or not the prospect buys a card. Sales Techniques for Scouts Don t miss the opportunity to use the Camp Card sale to train Scouts in public speaking, sales and service. Your Scouts and parents will appreciate the effort and your sales will improve. Find a way to make training fun and reward Scouts who do a good job! We re selling more than just Discount Cards Ensure your families understand that they are selling character, they are selling a better community, and they are selling the benefits of summer camp, not just selling discount cards. Emphasize that each card sold helps a Scout go to camp. The reason our sale will be successful is that people want to support Scouting. Your Unit Kickoff The objectives of your Camp Card kick-off are simple: Get Scouts excited about camping! Get parents informed about why their son should have a camp experience. How can you ensure a successful kick-off? Make sure the kick-off is properly promoted through e-mail, e-mail groups and phone. Review the presentation with your unit leader prior to the meeting. Plan who is to do what. Be prepared to talk about camp opportunities. Have snacks, drinks and music. Keep it short! Distribute at least twenty (20) cards to every Scout. Questions : Contact us at 407-703-0245 or via email at Tia.Pendleton@cflscouting.org Visit us online for additional Camp Cards for your sale at: campcard.cflscouting.org Central Florida Council, BSA 1951 S.
