PROJECT IDEA

SECTOR: CONSTRUCTION TRANSPORT, TOURISM AND INFRASTRUCTURE The New Guatemala City International Airport and Ring Road

The New Guatemala City International Airport and Ring Road

The New Guatemala City Airport SECTOR: Construction / Transport / Tourism / Infrastructure GENERAL PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Guatemala s International Airport "La Aurora" is the main gateway to the country and its destinations. Currently located 1 km from the central business district of the City, this airport has major limitations to grow and expand its facilities. It currently serves only 17 cities in other countries by direct flights from Guatemala. With the natural growth of passengers, the airport s operations and different service areas will be obsolete around 2030 or earlier. For this reason the Municipality of Guatemala has initiated a study for the relocation of the airport and its logistic services within the city limits. The planning and projection of the new location has been determined to be within a 5 km radius of the existing facilities, and near the city s central business district. This relocation would allow to reclassify the land where the airport currently stands, which is the highest land value location, and thus financially sustain the investment of a new airport and a peripheral road. It also would retain and promote tertiary services. The new location will host new industrial areas, with enough handle services, promote the creation of new jobs, support tourism, and attain the demands of international service standards for a high quality airport. currently 2 Million passengers/year PROJECT DEVELOPMENT STATUS project idea pre-feasibility studies feasibility studies ready for implementation

The New Guatemala City Airport DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT STATUS: The project is being developed in 2 city plans: 1. Master plan for the urban reclassification of the current airport site. 2. Master plan for the development of the new location and a ring road that connects to the city s business district. The first one has a complete analysis of the sector and is currently in a design phase, while the second one is in analysis phase of the new proposed location and connecting road. The aim of the first one is to promote local development within the City, while the second one focuses on improving the country s international airport facilities and services for citizens and visitors, and promote the country s turism facilities. The invesment should be focused in development and progress of the ultimate demands of infrastructure and sustaintability. Inter-institutional Agreement is required. NEED FUNDING YES NO TYPE OF PARTNERSHIP Technical Cooperation / Manufacturing Agreement / Construction ESTIMATED PROJECT VALUE US$ 500 Million 750 Million 2 aircraft take off and landing ways, 25-30 Fingers.
