Editorial 2015 has all but come and gone and our last tour for the year to Paternoster has been completed with the usual success. We would like to thank all of you who toured with us over the last 12 months. Your support was much appreciated and we are looking forward to another year of great holidays with you. Now it is time to reflect on all our blessings as Christmas is celebrated. Gill and I would like to wish you all a very blessed time as we remember the events of some 2000 years ago. May you all experience a time of peace and goodwill with family and friends over this period. We also look ahead to another year and what it will bring. We at Fairview Touring will continue to bring you opportunities to travel and enjoy our wonderful country. Join us on one of our tours with likeminded people and experience a few days away from your usual routines. Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Eric & Gill RECENT TOURS SOUTH COAST AND WHALES Although we had only a few passengers our trip around the South Coast was well worthwhile. We travelled along the coast from Gordons Bay to Arniston visiting many of the bays and villages. The flowers were out everywhere even on the rocky shoreline. Whales were abundant especially at De Kelders as they came very close to the shore. This was a great 5 days and enjoyed by all. GARDEN ROUTE & ADDO We had a lovely group for this tour. The weather was wonderful and we enjoyed our time in Knysna as we cruised on the lagoon to the Heads. Our visit to Tenikwa, the sanctuary for wild cats, was also an experience as we went into the compounds and saw cheetah and other species at close range. Addo lived up to expectations and the elephants were there in numbers. However now that the park has been extended they were not concentrated together and were found in family groups in different sectors of the park. Our visit to Scotia Private Game Reserve was also a great success as we encountered lions and rhino. As a grand finale we traversed the magnificent Swartberg Pass, often referred to as the Grandfather of South African passes. KALAHARI SUPER SAFARI This 10 day adventure lived up to expectations. Although the weather was quite hot we were not unduly troubled. The evenings were great and we enjoyed several braais as we sat and chatted about the day s events. We saw most of the animals expected but the lions were very conspicuous by their absence. We were in the wrong place at the wrong times for them. We all PTO
enjoyed the accommodation in the park especially the new riverside chalets at Mata Mata which were outstanding. On our return the visit to the Augrabies Falls was also worthwhile. The river was quite low but nevertheless we had very good views of the canyons. PATERNOSTER As usual this was another great mini-break. The cruise on the Berg River was a highlight. The weather was very nice except the first day when the wind blew quite a bit. Pictures of these tours are in our picture gallery at the end of this newsletter. Our bookings are going very well and, with exception of the Madagascar Tour, are getting full. However there are still some places available. Please book your place soon.
