She chose to spend some of her retirement time at YAM for several reasons: the lessons she learned from her father, who was a Captain in the Army during WWII about the importance of service, her interest in WWII history, and her work with the airlines. All of these things led her to become a member and volunteer at the YAM. For 27 years she worked for Northwest and Delta Airlines in the Cargo Department. She was responsible for reporting all cargo on planes from overseas and sharing the paperwork with Customs and USDA. For two years she worked at the front desk at the museum, answering the phone and directing calls to the proper department. Last year an opportunity arose to work in the Collections Department and Nancy stepped right in. She finds the work very interesting and at the same time challenging. She loves detail and says, The more challenging, the more I love it! Nancy is currently working on a collection of letters that was donated to the museum consisting of hundreds of letters from a WWII soldier to his wife. Her job is to transcribe the letters and describe in detail the physical attributes, envelope, cards, etc. of each piece. All of the information is stored in archival materials so that it can be preserved for the future. Nancy has learned a great deal and feels very privileged to have this experience working with the people in the Collections Department. Nancy and her husband Greg are also busy during Thunder Over Michigan with set up before the show as well as working in the Information Booths. They also are involved with the Willow Run Victory Car Show each year. Thanks, Nancy, for all that you do for the museum! We are so happy to have you part of the team! If you would like to volunteer at the Yankee Air Museum, please contact Tom Carroll at 734-483-4030.

HANGAR HAPPENINGS APRIL 2018 5 A BIG Thank You! Tim and Tess Noonan operate two Tim Hortons Café & Bake Shops in Belleville, one not far from Yankee Air Museum and the other near Hangar 1. They re good neighbors and they believe in being an integral part of the community. For years, Tim and Tess have supported our Museum and THUNDER OVER MICHIGAN. They have done so consistently, quietly and with class. Recently, they expressed an interest in being helpful throughout the entire year and after a couple of very cordial meetings, some very tangible results have ensued. Through Tim Hortons, they have donated coffee, donuts and lunch at many key Museum events and what a difference this has made! They have even donated a coffeemaker and canisters of fresh ground coffee beans for our volunteers to enjoy on site. Yankee Air Museum needed ways to recognize, indeed applaud, Tim Hortons tremendous backing and the friendship of Tim and Tess. Special recognition has been added to some of our flyers, especially the Historic Presentation Night publicity. A banner has been placed in the Museum gift shop proclaiming Tim Hortons Favored Coffee of the Yankee Air Museum. In addition, the Museum procured t-shirts for Tim Hortons staff to wear, and they have done so as a team, every weekend throughout March. It s really caught on, said Tess. Our staff love the shirts and we have gotten many favorable comments from customers. Thank you Tim, Tess and Tim Hortons!
