South Africa The Rainbow Nation. South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with its diversity of cultures, landscapes and unlimited choices for vacation. Whether you want to relax, do safaris, enjoy the sun, have fun or pursue adventure, South Africa has everything you can imagine - and more. An exotic combination of people, landscapes, history, culture, charm and modernity make South Africa a unique place to visit. ENTRY TO THE COUNTRY GENERAL INFO MONEY To enter South Africa you need a passport with a minimum validity of six months, with the return date and, if appropriate, an entry visa. As from June 1, 2015, all children under 18 years old, traveling to and from South Africa (or even in transit in this country), independent of the respective nationality, will be required to present the passport and unabridged birth certificate, as well as other official documents that vary according to the situation of children: accompanied by both parents, by only one parent, accompanied by an adult other than the parents or unaccompanied. All documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified translation issued by the authority of the country concerned. All documents must be originals or certified copies of the original. In any situation you should consult your Consulate or the South African Embassy before traveling and to clarify any doubts related to the entry. DOCUMENTS Passport with a minimum validity of six months which includes the return date. In the case you hire a car, driver s license and identification document is mandatory. OTHERS - Country Code: 00 27 - Mains: 220 V (3 pins) - Time difference: GMT 2 hours South Africa is a vast and very diverse country, catering for everyone s tastes. It thus attracts many tourists who travel to discover the mysteries of South Africa. The outdoor life is magnificent, with dream beaches, breath-taking landscaped areas and of course, game parks and natural reserves that allow intimate contact with wildlife, including the famous and amazing Kruger Park which borders Mozambique. The vast activities available make choosing just one a difficult task. From ornithological observation (there s about 900 species of birds in the country), to fishing which represents one of the most popular sports in this country; From hunting and safaris to golf, with 400 registered golf courses, some considered the best in the world; From mountain tracking to whale watching. Moreover you can visit African cultural villages, galleries and art exhibitions or museums that focus on local history, magnificent caves that are among the most beautiful in the world, visits to diamonds or gold mines and still relax watching one of festivals which regularly inhabit the South African entertainment calendar. For the wine lovers there are also the Wine Routes which are one of the biggest attractions of this country. CLIMATE The monetary unit is the Rand, represented by the symbol R. R1 = 100 cents. The winter / autumn extend from May to August. Although the climate varies from region to region, it is generally mild and sunny throughout the year. Overall it is a dry country with an annual rainfall of 502 mm. Snow falls only at the peaks of the highest mountains. Summer temperatures hover around an average between 15-30 C at midday.
