Can You Name that Plane? Romi Lucas' Foam Cutting Class During the December club meeting, Romi conducted a twenty minute class on how to cut and shape foamboard into a functional wing. Romi brought in all of his locally purchased items required to properly and safely cut foamboard. He then when on to explain how to build the items and did a demonstration of cutting the foamboard. Clue #1: During the 1950's, this plane was intended to replace the A-1 Skyraider. The plane had a turbine-powered engine with contra-rotating props, giving it twice the power of the A-1 Skyraider. For completed details of the process, you can contact Romi and he would be happy to assist you! Romi's email: crazzyflyer@hotmail.com Clue #2: Due largely to the failure of the T40 program to produce a reliable engine and the increased reliability of jet engines, the plane never entered operational service. "Romi demonstrates the technique of cutting foamboard using locally purchased items." Do You have a story, picture or an article that you would like to share with the club? Get it to me at: Clue #3: Only twelve were built, two flew. Most were scrapped or destroyed in accidents. Only one has survived and is currently a static display at the airport in Idaho Falls, Idaho. lkdavis03@hotmail.com Keith Davis - PPRCC Newsletter Editor PPRCC Newsletter 4
