Day Two Enjoy a day in the 'most powerful city on Earth'. Our optional guided tour will reveal the giant, domed Capitol Building on 'the Hill', the vast Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. Stretching two miles from the Capitol to the Potomac River, the vast, manicured acres of National Mall boast the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Smithsonian museums and - at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue - the White House itself. Day Three This morning we'll journey north to the original US capital, historic Philadelphia. Our orientation tour, which will bring to life the colourful story of America's birth and the characters of the men, like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, who brought it to life. After a fascinating day, you'll continue north to New York City. Days Four and Five The "city that never sleeps" is among the world's most exciting, most colourful and most welcoming destinations. The Manhattan skyline towers over the oasis of Central Park, while the Statue of Liberty stands watch over the sea. Spend two days soaking up the atmosphere - from Fifth Avenue's famous stores and bustling Times Square to the world-class collections of Museum Mile and the irrepressible buzz of Harlem. Discover the city's secrets on our optional excursions - a 'hop on, hop off' narrated city tour or a breathtaking helicopter ride. Day Six Transfer to the airport, this morning, and fly west to San Francisco. Our coach will transfer you into the city to the hotel once you arrive, and you'll be free to rest and relax, and enjoy your first evening in the city by the bay. Day Seven
Join this morning's optional guided tour of San Francisco to discover Union Square, quirky North Beach, hippie hang-out Haight-Ashbury and stylish Nob Hill, before crossing the Golden Gate Bridge to the pretty artists' colony of Sausalito and then riding the Bay Ferry back to the city. This evening, why not head to colourful Chinatown, or take the cable car down to bustling Fisherman's Wharf? Day Eight Journey inland and east into the Sierra Nevada, to Yosemite National Park. Renowned for its magnificent valley, spectacular granite domes and peaks, plunging waterfalls and giant sequoias, this stunning wilderness offers an unforgettable spectacle that is sure to be one of the highlights of your trip. Tonight you'll stay in Visalia, in California's fertile central valley. Day Nine Today's long journey takes you into the desert landscape of Nevada, to spend two nights in Las Vegas, the world's most famous 'oasis'. Day 10 Today you're free to explore Vegas' countless attractions. Check out the 'megaresorts' of the Strip and Downtown - with their gaming rooms, shopping malls, diverse entertainments and endless dining opportunities - or join today's optional excursion to the Hoover Dam, which holds back the waters of mighty, man-made Lake Mead. This evening, discover the city's lights on an the optional 'Vegas Nights' helicopter flight, and perhaps take in a show in one of the famous lounges. Day 11 After a relaxed morning, board the coach for a trip through the desert landscape to Laughlin, a 'Vegas in Miniature' on the Colorado River, and your base for the next two nights. Day 12 One of the tour's most unforgettable days awaits, today, as you journey to the edge of the startling and spectacular Grand Canyon. The vast chasm, carved out by the Colorado River, is one mile deep and six miles wide, and is filled with sandstone pinnacles and stark promontories. Survey the scene from the South Rim, and perhaps take an optional helicopter flight for even more stupendous views. Day 13 This morning we'll cross back into California heading for our final hotel, in Buena Park close to Los Angeles. Day 14
Rest and relax in the hotel, enjoying the sunshine for which southern California is renowned, or join an optional excursion to explore Santa Monica. Stroll down the boardwalk, see the pier and Ferris wheel and enjoy the exceptional shopping on Third Street Promenade, then take the beautiful coastal drive along the bay to chic, picturesque Malibu. Day 15 Bidding farewell to the hotel, this morning you'll enjoy a visit to the star-studded streets of Hollywood, where landmarks include Mann's Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and then transfer to Los Angeles Airport to board your overnight flight home. Day 16 Arrive back in the UK, at the end of a wonderful holiday.
