Located just three hours east of the Bay Area at 5,600 feet in beautiful Pinecrest, CA, we are not just Camps Blue, Gold, and Oski the Lair is a state of mind! With fresh mountain air, an outstanding college staff, and the gorgeous backdrop of the central Sierra Nevada, the Lair provides the perfect setting for a remarkable array of recreational and leisure activities and an amazing allinclusive family camping experience. CAMPS BLUE, GOLD, and OSKI The activities and programs for children (and parents!) at each camp are nearly identical. Each has its own staff and facilities, which include a common dining hall, pool, sports courts, art area, and Kub Korral (our enclosed kids playground), and each serves three hearty family-style meals a day. The primary difference is that Camps Blue and Gold have larger facilities, each hosting as many as 85 families per week. Blue and Gold campers also participate in week-long athletic tournaments, seeking a highly coveted Lair trophy. At Camp Oski, campers experience a much smaller, more intimate camp experience. Oski campers also have a weekly camp-wide barbecue at Pinecrest Lake, tent circle campfires, and unique Lair facilities such as a lap pool and a sand volleyball court. All in all, the three Lair camps are much more similar than different! You do not need to be a Cal graduate to camp at the Lair or to join the Cal Alumni Association (CAA). However, please note that for full-week and mini-week Family Camp sessions, a CAA membership ($60 annually) is required for at least one attending adult in each individual tent. CAA membership is not required for any of our adult sessions or for our Family Weekends. To join CAA, please call 888.CAL.ALUM. In 2011, we had new campers in every Lair session. ThIs Is BeArS CoUnTrY Your home for your Lair stay is a simple yet cozy tent cabin, consisting of wooden sides and floors, with a snug canvas top. Rustic certainly defines our cabin amenities, which include twin-size metal frame beds with mattresses (you bring your own bedding), a shelving unit, an electric light, and an outlet. Modern bath and shower buildings are conveniently located just steps from your cabin. Bosch Hall at Camp Oski Bosch Hall offers small motel-style rooms (with nearby bath) for those who prefer alternative lodging. A limited number of rooms are available for an additional $195 per room for our family weeks. Pinecrest Chalet CAA is proud to be the new owner and operator of a beautiful year-round resort, the Pinecrest Chalet. Located just a half-mile from Camp Oski, Pinecrest Chalet offers furnished studio, cottage, and townhouse options. It is also a wonderful option for those Lair campers who are craving the creature comforts of a clean and comfortable indoor room, yet still want a Lair experience. Chalet guests who are visiting a family in camp may commute into the Lair and simply pay a daily meal and facility-use rate. A new CAA member benefit! In June, the Lair hosts a four-day mini-week, as well as Family Weekends in the spring and late summer each providing an ideal opportunity for families who have never attended the Lair to see what all the excitement is about! Our camp store carries a wide variety of Lairwear and hats, snacks, sodas, ice cream, and selected art supplies (including clay, tiles, green-ware, and white T-shirts). Boating, fishing, and swimming are all available at nearby Pinecrest Lake. Horseback riding and golf are available nearby for an additional charge. ADULT CAMPING Long known as a retreat destination for families, the Lair hosts four popular adult specialty sessions near the end of summer all featuring the unrivaled spirit of Family Camp, but from a more mature perspective. Pricing for these special sessions includes all food, lodging, and programming, and membership in the Cal Alumni Association is not required. If you would like to stay at Pinecrest Chalet during any of the adult sessions (excluding GlamSlam Tennis Academy for Women), we offer a one-time flat fee for one of our cottage units for the length of the program. CoLlEgE PrEp CaMp The Lair offers a dynamic and energizing College Prep Camp for high school juniors and seniors. All pricing for this session includes food, lodging, and instruction, and you do not need to be a member of the Cal Alumni Association to attend. College Admissions in the Woods! June 12-16 / Camp Oski $695* (Deposit $200) *Register with a friend and save $195 on each fee! College is one of the best times of your life and the application process should be fun too! College Prep Camp at the Lair will certainly be fun. With a curriculum specific to rising high school juniors and seniors, daily sessions will cover, among many other things, college search, personal statement/essay writing workshops, and discussions with current collegiate Lair staffers. Our high-powered instructors will consist of Cal admissions staff, AP English instructors, high school guidance counselors, and current UC students. This is certain to be an important confidence-building experience for the anxious college-bound student in your household! Make Your Booking by Tuesday, February 28, 2012 2011 campers who are requesting the same renewable tent for the same camp and same week session as 2011 will be guaranteed to receive that same tent and same session for 2012 if their online booking request is completed by February 28, 2012. All new camper booking requests submitted by February 28, 2012, will be filled utilizing a lottery process and be based on the available tents as of March 1. For more details about our lottery process, please visit alumni.berkeley.edu/lair. New to the Lair or Trying to Camp with Other Families? We want to help you get in the session you want for this summer. Visit our FAQs link found on the left menu on our website to find lots of helpful hints on how best to make your booking requests and how to request to camp with other families as a group. Confirmations The lottery will be run during the first week of March 2012, and you ll receive an email in mid-march notifying you that tent assignments will be available online. If you did not receive a tent through the lottery, you will be notified of this as well, with an option to stay on the wait list or to cancel your reservation and receive a full refund. If you requested a tent change, but were rebooked into your current tent, you can request to remain on the wait list should that tent become available. Details about this process will be included in your confirmation email. Booking a Tent After February 28, 2012 By mid-march 2012, you will be able to directly book any open tent through our website. If there is no tent available for the session in which you would like to camp, you can ask to be put on a wait list for specific camp sessions by calling the Lair office at 510.642.0221 and making a deposit. We will notify you by phone if we receive a cancellation and are able to book you into a tent. ImPorTAnT! Submit your reservation request before February 28, 2012, especially if you want to change tents or weeks, or if you re a new or past camper hoping to camp with us this summer. BEAR FACTS cont. Final Payments Final payments for all Family Camp and College Prep Camp sessions are due Tuesday, may 1, 2012. Final payments for all adult sessions are due by Friday, July 13, 2012. Unpaid reservations are subject to cancellation. Important 2012 Reservation Dates and Cancellation Information This year we are introducing the following registration deadlines and policies: Tuesday, February 28: Deadline to rebook your tent with priority and/or to be included in the lottery for a new tent. This deadline is for Family Camp AnD adult sessions too. On February 29, you will lose any priority from camping last summer and open tents will be booked on a first-come, first-served basis. Week of March 12: Check your email for confirmation of your Lair booking. Friday, March 23: Deadline to cancel your booking with no penalties. Saturday, March 24: Penalty of $250 for a cancellation on or after this date. Tuesday, May 1: Final payment is due for Family Camp sessions only (adult sessions final payment is due July 13). Unpaid reservations are subject to cancellation. Wednesday, May 2: Cancelling on or after this date incurs a loss of your full deposit. Friday, July 13: Adult session final payments are due. NO refunds will be given within 14 days prior to the start of your camping session, or after you ve camped. This includes cancellations for campers originally booked for a full week who arrive late or leave early, or cancel entirely. Please be sure you provide us an email address you check regularly, as all forthcoming correspondence will be sent to this email address. No paper correspondence will be sent regarding your reservation. Overnight Guest Camper Pass Guests who will be staying in your tent for a night or partial week must be preregistered.
