MARKET FOCUS Where the World Trades with ASIA The unifying Hong Kong and Macau is heading for a tourism boom with visitor figures rapidly growing on a rise that will annually draw 35 millions travellers by 2010. Hong Kong Maintaining its status as a worldwide international business hub Situated at the world s busiest international sea & cargo centre, Hong Kong remains to be the major transit export & re-export market for China (account for 44%), the USA (16%), the EU (14%) and Japan (5%). China International hotel chains are establishing their presence in China for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) will open 74 more hotels in China by 2008. Shangri-La plans to enlarge its portfolio to 17 more hotels by 2008. Marriott will increase its portfolio to 35 and 100 hotels in China by 2008 and 2010, respectively. Accor will add 70 more hotels to its Asia Pacific portfolio, with China accounts for 43% of its additions.
