A TOWERING ADDRESS A few steps away from Seven Dials; around the corner from Agatha Christie s long-running The Mousetrap; minutes from The Ivy. Tower Street is right at the heart of the action in Covent Garden, one of central London s most desirable areas. The imposing Grade II listed edifice was originally a red-brick school building dating back to the early 19s; more recently, it was for the headquarters of the Really Useful Group, world-famous musical composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber s production company. Now, it is an exceptional new development of eight spacious and luxurious apartments, spread over six floors and 17,685 square feet of space. Sympathetically restored to retain original features and layout, this building of exceptional character forms a great addition to central London s luxury portfolio. Tower Street has been extensively refurbished and restored to retain the building s unique character. Tower Street is a former school building once used by composer Andrew Lloyd-Webber for his Really Useful Group. GARDEN OF DELIGHTS Theatre and street performers. Coffee shops and hidden alleyways. Market stalls and boutiques. Covent Garden is a fascinating area devoted to enjoyment and has been since it was first built in the 1630s. And when you look beyond the gourmet restaurants and olde-world pubs, you find world-famous performance venues: the Opera House, Theatre Royal Drury Lane and the English National Opera. Tower Street is just minutes away from the very best dining, culture and shopping that London has to offer. There s always something happening on the Piazza, from jugglers and musicians to market stallholders. Nell Gwynn Nell used her legendary charms to rise from being an orange seller in Drury Lane to become one of the most popular actresses of her time as well as the King Charles II s mistress. Samuel Pepys called her pretty, witty Nell, The former home of fresh fruit and flowersellers has shed its skin and become a world-class hub of This is a compelling place, blending old and new, that is thriving, varied and exciting. Today she is remembered in two pubs: The Nell of Old Drury on Catherine Street and the Nell Gwynne culture and entertainment, fashion and shopping. COVENT GARDEN Covent Garden is a neat rectangle, bordered by the Strand, Charing Cross Road, Oxford Street, Holborn and Kingsway. Soho lies to the west, Bloomsbury to the north and Holborn to the east. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adi piscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Naming Covent Garden The Convent of St Peter, Westminster, kept a large kitchen garden here, giving the area its name. In 1552, King Henry VIII handed the land to John Baron Russell, Great Admiral of England, and later the first Earl of Bedford, for helping bring down the treasonous Duke of Somerset. Russell Street and Bedford Street remind us that the same family continued to own the land for nearly 4 years, only selling it off after the Second World War. 8 22 TOWER COVENT GARDEN www.22towerstreet.co.uk 9

A HARD ACT TO FOLLOW A powerhouse of the arts, business and finance, London has recently assumed the mantle of the world s greatest metropolis, with more billionaires than any other city. But London attracts people as much for its culture as its commerce. The city has the planet s most exciting shop scene; theatre that is a magnet for Hollywood stars; vast public parks and gardens; and a dining scene that is said to be more varied and dynamic than Paris s. The city s cultural credentials are second-to-none too, with some 250 museums and more than 2 theatre performances at any one time. London is officially Europe s most visited city, with 16.8 million international visitors in 2013. London leads the world in commerce, the arts, fashion, media, education, finance and tourism. Bow Street Runners The world s first police force just six constables was brought together by Tom Jones author Henry Fielding in 1749. The public called them the Bow Street Runners as they operated out of the street s Magistrates Court, where many famous accused people have passed including Oscar Wilde, Casanova, General Pinochet and Pete Doherty. Now, the old Bow Street courthouse is being transformed into a 99-bedroom hotel with a police museum and four sleepover cells (although with top-quality mattresses). It is planned to open in 2015. 10 22 TOWER COVENT GARDEN www.22towerstreet.co.uk 11

WHAT S IN ORE BE OF BRITISH London brims over with terrific shopping opportunities: from the grand department stores of Edwardian times to hip independent boutiques and globally known designer brands. It s exciting, varied and spread out in many different precincts. Covent Garden is an excellent starting point, with the famous market operating daily (for antiques, collectables and crafts) and a labyrinth of streets and lanes full of enticing boutiques. Europe s most famous shopping street must be Oxford Street, just a 10-minute walk away, while Soho s independent boutiques and Mayfair s wealth of haute couture brand names lie just to the west. You ll find plenty of home-grown brands in Covent Garden. Names include Aspinal, Barbour, Ben Sherman, Brora, Burberry, Fred Perry, Hackett, Hobbs, Jack Wills, Jigsaw, Jo Malone, Karen Millen, Miller Harris, Mulberry, Nigel Hall, Orlebar Brown, Oliver Sweeney, Paul Smith, Penhaligon s, Pretty Green, Radley, Reiss, Ted Baker and Whittard. PA PLEASURES London oozes culture at every turn, with twice as many museums as Paris or New York, as well as 37,0 listed buildings and major world sporting events from Lord s to Wimbledon. And Covent Garden is right in the middle of it all. The London Transport Museum, the National Gallery, Courtauld Institute and British Museum are all walkable; and it s just a short bus ride to Tate Modern or a 9 minute tube journey to the great museums of South Kensington. Sir John Soane s Museum The architect Sir John Soane moved to Lincoln s Inn Fields in the 1790s, and began extending to house his rambling collection of Roman mosaics, Greek vases, an Egyptian sarcophagus, bronzes from Pompeii, Peruvian pottery, 30,0 drawings, sculptures and paintings. The result is London s most engaging hotch-potch of treasures. London s 170 museums include the world-famous British Museum, Tate Modern and National Gallery. A city to make you think, explore, reflect and respond. Piazza Residences are a real gateway to the arts, just moments from world-famous theatres, opera houses, museums and galleries. SHOW TIME THEATRE & CINEMA Covent Garden and Soho are home to more theatres than any other place in Europe. From big-budget musicals to intimate drama, opera, ballet and comedy, there are more than 2 shows to choose from six days a week. Covent Garden s most experimental venue is the Donmar Warehouse; its most historic is the Theatre Royal Drury Lane; and its most esteemed the legendary Royal Opera House, attracting the world s greatest opera singers and ballet companies. Theatre Royal, Drury Lane Covent Garden s oldest surviving theatre was the home of the King s Company of actors established in 1663. Since then, the theatre has performed works written especially for it by John Dryden, William Congreve, Richard Brinsley Sheridan and Lord Byron and great actors who have performed here include David Garrick, Sarah Siddons and Spike Milligan.
