For a club to be successful a solid committee is needed to keep the club moving forward with fresh ideas balanced off with sound and stable management. This takes willing club members and diverse skill across the committee team. This year like others there will be a number of the committee members vacating after completing lengthy terms. Please consider what you could do to help run the club by being part of next years team, this is a great opportunity for you to use your particular skill set to keep the club active and heading in the right direction. March Run Reports All Ford Day March 4th All Ford Day is an annual car show day that as the title suggests is dedicated to showing off the Ford in all it s glory with cars from the manufacturer s global range featuring vehicles built in USA, Canada, Australia, UK and South Africa. The hosts of the event are the Tauranga Muscle Car Club and always attracts a massive turnout not only from the Bay but from neighbouring districts also. As usual their were Fords on display in big numbers and the weather Gods were smiling with a very hot and sunny day. This event traditionally has been a well supported day by the BOP Mustang Owners Club as the club was formed by a small group Mustang enthusiasts at the venue in 2002. This year again we had a strong turnout with 22 cars meeting in the morning to convoy into Blake Park 5 more members joined us later parking up in the usual corner of the rugby grounds. This year unfortunately although good numbers not enough to keep the run unbroken for the Best Represented Club, after years of trying the Tauranga Ford Club finally took the honours with 37 cars on display. Rob Sperling made his debut outing after a very extensive rebuild of his 66 Fastback. The car looks stunning with the two tone silver and black paint job. The car attracted plenty of attention. Well done Rob the car is certainly a fantastic example. The day was a great opportunity to welcome a couple of new members, Sharlene with her 2017 Shelby Super Snake and Murray with his 1965 Fastback. The BOP Mustang Club acquitted themselves well at judging time. Congratulations to Wayne Hill for taking out 2nd place in the Competition Car section with his 1965 Pete Geoghegan replica race Mustang.
Also congratulations Paul Stops for getting 2nd place in the Commercial Vehicle category with his 1956 F100 pickup truck (it s not a Mustang but as Paul is a club member we ll take the placing as a club win) As well as 2nd place for David and Vanessa s 71 Mach1. As always our club put on a stellar display of great looking Mustangs. Thank you all that attended the day and I hope you enjoyed your day
Mustang Okoroire Sports Day. And what a day it was! The sunshine was out, convertible roofs down as 20 cars assembled at BP Lakes for the start of the fun day experience. The destination was the Okoroire Springs Hotel for a fun sports day. OKOROIRE SPRINGS MUSTANGS PARKED UP. The five events included golf, wheel nut throwing, soccer, horse shoe pitching, and Pittong. The Okoroire hotel had very kindly donated two trophies for the occasion, these being one for the best scoring female and male. At 11.00am the challenge was on!! Groups of four commenced the events, and twice round the 5 event circuit bought out the cheers, flukes, frustrations and skills with lots of laughs throughout. The hole in one golf event presented a difficulty with no one landing the 9 score, but one or two were close. Maybe we should make the difficulty level easier next time. After the challenges and scores totalled, we all assembled in the courtyard of the hotel for the prize giving and lunch which was served on time and everybody enjoyed their meal.
The top scoring female prize went to Wendy Osborne. Congratulations Wendy, your soccer skills won the day. The Top scoring male prize was won by Terry Taylor. The awards were presented by the Manager of the Okororie Hotel who sponsored the trophy s. Best presented car was won by Sharlene Rowling with her new Shelby Mustang convertible Super Snake. This is a 700HP plus white convertible, converted in Australia to the Shelby specification, and the only right-hand drive car of its type in New Zealand. A real girl s car! Sharlene is also a new club member.
The dipstick award was won by Rob Sperling. An altercation with his garage door following having his beautiful black Mustang on his hoist for thorough cleaning, led to a little collision of sorts when opening the door for the Sunday morning cruise. The fuel voucher raffle was won Jill and Ray. The Classic car book was won by Dennis and Felicity Street, and since they already had a copy of the Classic Car features, they kindly donated it back for a re-raffle. The eventual winner was Gary Fredericksen. Finally, a big thanks to the Okoroire Hotel for allowing us to have the sports day and the awards. Gary & Maree Fredericksen April 15 BOP Mustang Owners Club AGM. Upcoming Club Runs The AGM is to be held at the Tauranga Citizens Club, the meeting will kick off at 11.00am.
