Historical Note The Coney Island styled Boardwalk Hotel and Casino was built in 1977 in Las Vegas, Nevada by Norm Jansen, the original owner of the property. Shortly thereafter the property became a public corporation, Boardwalk Casino, Inc. It was then acquired by the Holiday Inn hotel chain which operated the hotel until it was sold to MGM Mirage Resorts in 1997. The original four story hotel building of 654 rooms preceded the era of the mega resorts. Although the hotel was renovated in 1996 with the addition of a 16 story tower, the hotel and casino's strongest advantage remained its strategic location between the Bellagio and the Monte Carlo hotels. Looking for a way to increase revenue on the valuable property, MGM Mirage Resorts closed the doors of the Boardwalk Hotel and Casino on January 9, 2006 to make way for their newest project, City Center Resort, to be built in its place. The Boardwalk was imploded by MGM on May 9, 2006. - Page 3-
Scope and Contents Note The Boardwalk Hotel and Casino records, dating from 1995 to 2003, contain two security and exchange documents; promotional and entertainment materials; player's club information; and photographs of the interior and exterior of the hotel. Also included are plans for an operational tracking system of players, audiovisual materials, and ephemera from the MGM. Arrangement Materials remain in the order they were received.
