SITREP NO-110/2007 1700 hours 32-20/2007-NDM-I Ministry of Home Affairs (Disaster Management Division) Dated, 18 TH September, 2007 Subject: SOUTHWEST MONSOON-2007: DAILY FLOOD SITUATION REPORT SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT EVENTS AS ON 18.09.2007 RAINFALL SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY (during last 24 hours) KARNATAKA Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been reported in the State. Due to heavy rainfall in the State, river Mala Prabha is flowing above danger level in Gadag district. In Gadag district, village Yaragonda is reported to have been submerged under water due to overflow of river Mala Prabha. ASSAM Light to very light rainfall has been reported in some parts of the State. The situation in Cachar and Karimganj and other severely districts is improving gradually and returning to normal. In Barpeta district, traffic movement on National Highway (NH-31) continues to be disrupted due to complete damage of RCC Bridge at Hahara under Bajali Sub division. 9644 villages in 26 districts with population of 101.67 lakh are reported to have been so far in the state. About 684 Relief Camps & 217 relief centres in 15 severely districts continue to run in the State in which about 3,28,023 people are accommodated. BIHAR Light to very light rainfall has been reported in some parts of the State. 10,807 villages in 22 districts with population of 225.48 lakh are reported to have been in the state. 609 medical teams continue to be deployed in the districts of the State. 1672 Relief Camps continue to run in the State in which about 10,05,637 people have been accommodated. 1
Loss of Human lives As per provisional information received from the States, 24 human deaths have been reported during the last 24 hrs. The cumulative number of people who have lost their lives during the South West Monsoon so far is 2765. IMD Yesterday s low pressure area over West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh persists and is well marked. Under its influence, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy fall is likely over Peninsula during next 3-4 days. Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy fall is also likely over Maharashtra and Goa except Vidarbha during next 2-3 days. Subsequently, the enhanced rainfall is also likely over Gujarat. CWC There are 01 High flood, 16 Moderate and 20 Low flood situation sites. Warning (for next 24 hours) Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, north Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Outlook (for subsequent two days) Fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy fall is likely over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat. Scattered rain/thundershowers are also likely over northwest India. Decrease in rainfall activity is likely over South Peninsula. CENTRAL WATER COMMISSION According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) report dated 18 TH September, 2007, there are 01 High flood, 16 Moderate and 20 Low flood situation sites. The details of High flood situation site are as under:- In Assam, river Kushiyara at Karimganj is flowing at 16.23m with Steady trend against the danger level of 14.94m and the previous highest flood level (HFL) of 16.39m on 13.06.2006. 2

In Hailakandi district, traffic movement on National Highway (NH-154) Dhaleswari-Bhairabi which was disrupted due to landslides has since been restored. In Barpeta district, traffic movement on National Highway (NH-31) continues to be disrupted due to complete damage of RCC Bridge at Hahara under Bajali Sub division. 9644 villages in 26 districts with population of 101.67 lakh are reported to have been so far in the state. About 684 Relief Camps & 217 relief centres in 15 severely districts continue to run in the State in which about 3,28,023 people are accommodated. 2675 boats have been pressed into service in the districts for rescue and relief operations. Army and NDRF have been deployed in the State for rescue and relief operations. BIHAR Light to very light rainfall has been reported in some parts of the State during last 24 hours. 24 human deaths (Madhubani-15, Muzaffarpur-05, West Champaran and Samastipur-02 each) have been reported in the State during last 24 hours. 10,807 villages in 22 districts (243 blocks & 2998 Panchayats) with population of 225.48 lakh are reported to have been in the state. 609 medical teams continue to be deployed in the districts of the State for providing medical care. 1672 Relief Camps continue to run in the State in which about 10,05,637 people have been accommodated. 3
7277 boats continue to be deployed in the areas of the State for rescue and relief operations. 1009 cattle camps continue to run in the districts of the State. DEPLOYMENT OF NATIONAL DISASTER RESPONSE FORCE (NDRF) ON 18 TH SEPTEMBER, 2007 In Assam, 04 teams consisting of 142 personnel continue to be deployed for rescue and relief operations in Silchar and Hailakandi districts. LOGISTIC SUPPORT PROVIDED BY THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE ON 18 TH SEPTEMBER, 2007 Army In Assam, Seven Army columns along with seven Engineer Task Force teams continue to be deployed for rescue and relief operations in Hailakandi and Silchar. RAINFALL SITUATION IN THE REST OF COUNTRY DURING LAST 24 HRS Light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfalls have been reported in some parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Orissa, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and in northeastern states. The rainfall activity in the rest of the States/UTs is reported to be insignificant during the last 24 hours.
