Treasures of Italy 16 DAY TOUR OCTOBER 15-30, 2018 TOUR HOSTS: ROSS SMILLIE AND THERESE THOMPSON FEATURING: MILAN LAKE DISTRICT VERONA VENICE PISA TUSCANY FLORENCE SAN GIMIGNANA SIENNA TIVOLI SORRENTO CAPRI AMALFI COAST POMPEII ROME VATICAN CITY

Treasures of Italy Join us on an unforgettable journey through Italy, a country known for its history, art, food and excellent wine. Admire ever-changing picturesque landscapes as we drive through the various Italian regions. Be charmed by rural towns with medieval towers and historic icons such as those found in Pisa. Learn about the exploits of the great Roman Empire and appreciate the Renaissance in Florence. Be captivated by sun-kissed Capri, breathtaking Amalfi, and the ancient Venetian canals. This wonderful itinerary will enchant us as we see, touch, and taste Italy's cultural delights. Milan 2 Pisa Verona Montecatini Terme 4 Florence Siena Mediterranean Sea 2 Venice Rome 2 Tivoli = overnights = first overnight = last overnight Adriatic Sea Pompeii 4 Sorrento Capri MONDAY, OCTOBER 15 Day 1 Departure Day Today we meet our fellow travellers at the airport to board the departure flight, ready to begin a journey filled with new and exciting experiences. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16 D Day 2 Arrive in Milan Milan is one of the world's design and fashion capitals, but it has much more than a busy commercial centre - it has a rich historical tradition. Leonardo Da Vinci came here to work at the Sforza Court - the castle still remains. After being met at the airport by our guide and driver, we take a short panoramic tour to view the amazing La Scala Opera House as well as stop to see the magnificent Duomo, the world's largest Gothic cathedral. Then we will check into our hotel and freshen up before dinner. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17 BD Day 3 Italian Lake District A drive in the country is on the agenda today as we spend the day around beautiful Lake Como. We'll take a boat ride on the lake to view the elegant villas - many built in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the small ports and charming villages lining the shores. This afternoon there will be some free time to relax and enjoy the surroundings, before returning to Milan. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18 BD Day 4 Verona - Venice A day of intrigue as we cross northern Italy to Venice. Along the way we'll visit Verona, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS), home of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". We can see Juliet's house and its famous balcony and enjoy a break for lunch. After lunch we will have a wine tasting of the regions amazing Prosecco. After a little of the bubbly, we travel on to Venice (WHS) and a private boat transfer to our hotel in central Venice for the next two nights. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19 BD Day 5 Venice Sightseeing A morning tour of this unique city includes a visit to St. Mark's Square, to see the 11th century Basilica with a radiant gold altar-piece. Then we step into the Doges Palace, once home to Venice's rulers and a triumph of Gothic architecture. We also see The Bridge of Sighs, reputedly taking its name from the sounds of prisoners being led to trial. The afternoon is free for us to explore to our heart's content. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20 BD Day 6 Pisa - Tuscany From coast to coast today as we travel to Pisa (WHS), a city that dominated the Western Mediterranean from the 11th to 12th centuries. Everyone comes to admire the famous Leaning Tower, which is once again open thanks to an extensive renovation designed to rebalance the structure. Afterwards we'll travel to our hotel located in Montecatini Terme. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21 BD Day 7 Florence Sightseeing This morning we enjoy a tour of Florence (WHS) including the Uffizi Gallery, Italy's greatest art gallery. It houses the best collection of Renaissance paintings, as well as many Dutch, Spanish and German masterpieces. Stops will also be made at Piazza della Signoria, a veritable open-air museum of sculptures and the Baptistery, with the Golden Doors of Ghiberti. The afternoon is free to explore this culture-filled city on our own before returning to our hotel. MONDAY, OCTOBER 22 BD Day 8 San Gimignana - Siena A glorious day of sightseeing in Chianti. Our first stop today is San Gimignano (WHS), known for its thirteen towers that dominate the skyline. Next we stop in Siena (WHS), a city founded by the Romans in the first century, where we'll see the fan-shaped Piazza del Campo,

Palazzo Publico (town hall) and the Duomo. Before we leave Chianti, we will visit a local vineyard to sample their wine followed by a special Tuscan meal at Castello Vicchiomaggio. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23 BD Day 9 Market Day - Wine Estate Today we have the opportunity to shop during a local market day in the area. Many merchants come from all over the region to offer their wares. Everything can be found from wine and cheese to shoes. In the afternoon we depart for another excursion into the Tuscan hills. The highlight will be a visit to a local winery where we'll be treated to olive oil tasting, wine tasting and snacks. Afterwards we take time to admire a glorious Tuscan sunset before enjoying another scrumptious dinner. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24 BD Day 10 Tivoli - Sorrento This morning we depart for the south of Italy and our destination of Sorrento. Along the way we will make a short stop in Tivoli and visit Villa Adriana (WHS), the largest and richest villa of the Roman Imperial era. After a break for lunch, we then continue on to Sorrento, situated high on a beautiful plateau, with a commanding view of the sapphire blue Gulf of Naples dominated by Mount Vesuvius. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25 BD Day 11 Free Day in Sorrento Today is free to relax, or explore some of the great sites in Sorrento. The old section of Sorrento is a wonderful place to get lost in its narrow streets and alleyways. Grab a table at one of the café s on the Piazza Tasso, take a Hop on Hop Off bus tour or shop to your hearts content. There is much to see or do here. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26 BLD Day 12 Capri - Blue Grotto History and nature are the components that have made Capri one of the most desirable tourist destinations of all time. From the Roman emperors who ruled from their villas, to the flocks of international jet-setters, all have found the island to be a heaven on earth. We'll take the hydrofoil across the Punta Campanella, the small strait separating Capri from the mainland, and explore the town on foot. A relaxed pace will give us plenty of time to enjoy the winding streets, elegant little shops and the trattorias where we can sample local specialities while overlooking the beautiful Bay of Naples. Our tour includes lunch and entrance into the Blue Grotto by boat (weather permitting). Afterwards we return to our hotel. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27 BD Day 13 Pompeii - Amalfi Coast This will be a day of excitement. Our first stop is at Pompeii (WHS), the thriving resort town for wealthy Romans that was buried under ash and mud during the devastating eruption of Mt Vesuvius in AD 79. The vast ruins provide a fascinating insight into how the ancient Romans lived, and include impressive temples, a forum, one of the largest known Roman amphitheatres, and streets lined with shops. This afternoon we travel along the Amalfi coast. Stretching for 50km along a promontory from Sorrento to Salerno and passing through the town of Amalfi, is some of Europe's most beautiful coastline (WHS). The road hugs the zigzagging bends and curves of the coast, overlooking intensely blue waters and passing picture-postcard villages that cling to the cliff walls. After a leisurely drive along the Amalfi Coast we return to our hotel. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 28 BD Day 14 To Rome - Ancient Rome This morning we depart Sorrento on our way to Rome. Upon arrival, we will have a short break for lunch. Then, we will begin our tour of TOUR HOSTS Ancient Rome (WHS) which includes the Circus Maximus, the Arch of Constantine, the Roman Forum and a visit to the Colosseum - Rome's greatest amphitheatre and site of deadly gladiator combats. TOUR ACTIVITY LEVEL Active MONDAY, OCTOBER 29 BD Day 15 Vatican City - Pantheon Today we continue our Rome discovery. We begin this morning with a tour of Vatican City (WHS) which includes the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, where the ceiling by Michelangelo is the highlight, and St. Peter's Basilica, Catholicism's most sacred shrine. Afterward we visit the Pantheon which was formerly a Roman temple and now a church. Later, we have free time before our farewell dinner where we will toast the success of our trip. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 B Day 16 Return Home Today we travel home with luggage, souvenirs and memories of new friends and places we have explored on our wonderful tour of Italy.
