Highlights Come Aegean island-hopping with extended stays on Andros, Tinos & Amorgos Islands Experience a huge variety of scenery across the Cyclades island group including visits to Delos, Mykonos & Koufonisia Walk on cobbled pathways, mule roads and village trails to spring-fed waterfalls, seaside coves and villages Visit archaeological sites, museums & the Byzantine Hozoviotissa Monastery Travel on scenic ferry transfers between the islands with dramatic coastal views Watch sunsets in authentic Greek tavernas enjoying local gastronomic delights This 18 day journey through the Aegean islands features local walks, hidden seaside coves, traditional village life, local gastronomy and ancient history. Relax into island life with 4-6 nights stays on three islands in the Cyclades group. Starting in Athens, we commence our island-hopping adventure in Andros, the secondlargest of the Cyclades and a walkers paradise. On this lush island, springs are a feature of each village and waterfalls cascade down hillsides most of the year. We walk through valleys with bubbling streams and ancient stone mills amongst wildflowers and archaeological remnants. Transferring by ferry we come to the island of Tinos, known for its unique dovecotes, rural chapels and sparkling white villages found in hidden bays, on terraced hillsides and atop misty mountains. Time is spent exploring the island of Delos where the mythical gods Artemis and Apollo were born. We stopover on Mykonos island for sunset refreshments at a local tavern. Dramatic Amorgos offers a change of scenery. Shaped like a seahorse, Amorgos is the easternmost island of the Cyclades group and is known for its archaeology and dramatic coastline. The Byzantine Chosoviotissa monastery is a focal point and hangs precariously off the 300m sea cliffs. We spend time exploring the island s extensive network of marked paths and old mule roads. A major claim to fame is that many of Amorgos locations were featured in Luc Besson's 1988 cult film Le Grand Bleu (The Big Blue). The golden sand and clear waters with unique colours of Koufonisia beckons us before we return to Athens. Many tours book out very quickly so the moral of the story is the early bird catches the worm! To qualify for any of the early bird prices, you simply need to send a completed booking form and deposit of A$400 per person per tour, by the early bird dates listed at the front of the tour itinerary. We offer A$500 discount per person if you book by the Advanced Early Bird date and A$300 discount per person if you book by the Early Bird date. If your deposit arrives after any of the early bird dates, the tour balance will be at the regular price. To place your booking, simply visit www.parktours. com.au to pay your deposit and book online, or complete a Tour Booking Form, and post / fax / email it to us with your deposit. Once you have booked on a tour, we will stay in contact with regular mailings (see below). What information and contact can I expect? When you send your initial deposit, we will contact you to confirm your booking. Once the tour has been confirmed to depart, a comprehensive information pack will be sent to you, including a Tour A-Z, suggested packing list, medical questionnaire, balance of payment invoice, and pre / post accommodation options. We can assist you with flight arrangements but please don t book flights until our office contacts you to confirm that your tour has been confirmed to depart. The final mailing is sent out approximately three weeks before departure and includes final tour documents, address list for family and friends, meeting points, and any final travel information. What is the group size? We specialise in small group travel with an average group size of around 10-20 guests. Please see the front page for details on the minimum group size for this particular tour. All tours need a minimum number of passengers to operate at the price listed in the itinerary. If the minimum number is not reached, a tour may still operate with a surcharge. How fit do I have to be? When you are assessing your ability and agility to participate, age is not necessarily as important as your fitness and recent walking experience. Please read the tour walk rating and the day by day walking descriptions in the itinerary to determine if the tour is suitable for your fitness. If you have any queries, we are happy to put you in touch with either the tour coordinator or tour leader to discuss your fitness in more detail. What gear and equipment do I need to take? Because we focus on half and full day walks, returning to our accommodation in the afternoon, you don t need to carry any more than a daypack with rain wear, sunscreen, drinking water, camera and lunch. A few tours include an overnight hike where you will need to carry personal gear for the journey. We recommend hiking boots on most of our tours as they offer good ankle support and grip. A detailed packing list is included with your tour s information pack. For bookings call 1300 197 201 visit www.parktours.com.au or email info@parktours.com.au 2

This sets the scene for the remainder of our journey into the Cyclades islands, a main section of the Aegean archipelago. In the afternoon we travel to Rafina on the northern side of Athens for a two hour ferry to the island of Andros, the most northerly of the Cyclades group. We enjoy a picnic lunch at the base of the monastery, whilst taking in the panoramic views of the Chora valley. Walks: easy short orientation walks Day 7 Wed 06 Jun Tinos - Dovecote villages walk Leaving the hotel on foot we spend the morning discovering some of the dovecotes of Tinos. In the olden days, pigeons were sold to seafarers who came to the island to stock up on supplies. They are strikingly beautiful ornaments, each one individually designed and unique. Following the kalderimi (paved path), we visit the old villages of Ktikados, Xatzirados and Tabarados in the heart of the traditional dovecote area. After lunch we continue towards Kionia Bay via a hillside path. Passing sheep herds and white washed chapels along the way, we are reminded of the rural yet religious character of Tinos. We have the opportunity for a swim and then return to the hotel by bus. Walks: 5 hr easy walk; 420m descent Day 8 Thu 07 Jun Tinos - Rock fortress & villages walk Walking on an old Roman path, we climb steadily to the giant rock of Exomvourgo, where we discover the ruins of the Tinos acropolis and an ancient fortress used in the resistance against Turks and other invaders. We continue on to the village of Volax which emerges from huge granite rocks scattered in a moonlike landscape. Here we find houses built on giant rocks, a folklore museum of traditional handicrafts and just a few remaining basket weavers who work with willow, reed and wicker. Continuing on winding paths and past dozens of dovecotes, we arrive in one of the oldest villages of Tinos. Falatados is an ideal stop for lunch before we return to our hotel via bus. This evening, dinner is at your leisure. Walks: 4 hr moderate walk; 590m ascent/200m descent Day 9 Fri 08 Jun Delos & Mykonos Islands Early this morning, we take advantage of the local ferry and transfer to the island of Delos, birthplace of Artemis and Apollo (according to Greek mythology), to enjoy orientation walks and visit archaeological sites and the local museum. Walks: short easy walks Day 10 Sat 09 Jun Tinos - Kionia / Agios Romanos walk Today s walk follows a coastal path north west through old terraces, towards the ancient temple of Poseidon in Kionia. Walks: 2-4hr easy walk; 350m ascent/descent Day 11 Sun 10 Jun Tinos - Pyrgos - Panormos port walk The morning is free to visit Our Lady of Tinos Cathedral (Panagia Evangelistria) and explore the Virgin Mary icons for which it is famous. In the afternoon, we take the local bus to the village of Pyrgos, the birthplace of many famous Greek sculptors, including Ioannis Halepa. From here, we start our walk to the small port of Panormos and Kira Xeni monastery. We return to Pyrgos where it is worth visiting some of the sculpture studios where strict traditional rules of working the marble still apply. Walks: 6hr easy-moderate walk; 300m ascent/ 600m descent Day 16 Fri 15 Jun Koufonissia - Small Cyclades Islands The remote islands of Koufonisia are our destination for today.
