This is the start and finishing point of your Aussie adventures. * LAMINGTON NATIONAL PARK - is a premier rainforest region that offers all three types of rainforest vegetation - temperate, subtropical and tropical. Stunning waterfalls and outstanding birds, frogs, reptiles, mammals and creative imagery will see you shooting unique images each day. * LADY ELLIOT ISLAND - is one of the Great Barrier Reefs prettiest jewels with thousands of nesting birds, amazing reef and giant nesting sea turtles. We spend quality time shooting these subjects. Some of the birds and turtles will allow you to get so close that you can use a macro lens! All locations are different and all will offer unique images. AUSTRALIA Explore some of the hottest shoot locations, downunder with world class photographers and educators Brian Smith and Mark Galer. YOUR ITINERARY TO PHOTO ADVENTURE... DAY 1 - SYDNEY - November 12 Your holiday starts with a - Welcome Downunder dinner tonight. We meet at 6pm. You will be informed of the location in the final itinerary about one month before departure. We suggest that you arrive at least 24 hours before the event starts. Extra accommodation can be booked to your interest. This will help you with jet lag, so you are running 100% to start your Aussie adventures. Hotel Accommodation - 2 nights - (Dinner is included the first night.) NOTE: You make your own way from Sydney Airport to the hotel. Taxis are the easiest and cost around US$40. (The Australian dollar is the standard currency in Australia.) You could arrive a few days earlier and explore some of this cities great sights. These can be booked at the hotel on arrival. We suggest - 1. The Opera House - we will be targeting this region. We suggest that you look at other locations to optimise tour time. 2. Taronga Zoo - world famous for lots of wildlife and Australia s unique animals. 3. Sydney Aquarium - Found at Darling Harbour near our accommodation. 4. Harbour boat cruises - several types offered - fantastic views. 5. Lots of other tours and locations are available. Please ask hotel reception and of course Google... DAY 2: SYDNEY - November 13 Full day exploring this iconic city. We start early with sunrise at The Rocks. This offers us a view to the Opera House. After this shoot, we enjoy breakfast near our accommodation and undertake a workshop. A chance to look at techniques for the tour and ask questions to optimise your photo interests. We depart in the afternoon and walk to the Opera House, shooting its unique angles. We shoot sunset on the Opera House and the city. We return to our accommodation and dinner. Hotel Accommodation - No meals are included today, this offering more flexible shoot times. DAY 3: SYDNEY TO LAMINGTON NP - - November 14 We depart early and fly north to the Gold Coast in the state of Queensland. We drive up to O Reilly s Rainforest Retreat where we are based for the next three nights. The drive is scenic as it twists its way up into the mountains and some of Australia s most beautiful rainforest. Late light and colourful birds will be the key targets for this afternoons shoot. DAYs 4 & 5: LAMINGTON NP - November 15&16 Two full days of moderate walks and opportunities to shoot incredible new subjects. The park offers hundreds of waterfalls, incredibly diverse rainforest and is renowned for its great birds. You can expect to see and perhaps shoot, Crimson Rosellas, Rainbow Lorikeets, Robins, Cat Birds and perhaps the most outstanding - Satin and Regent Bower Birds. Your guides, will take you to special locations to maximise shoot opportunities and organise unique subjects that will offer great stories and images to take home. To top this off, the lodge is renowned for its service and hospitality. Other subjects may include the leaf-tailed gecko, carpet snake (about 8 feet long) padimelon (tiny kangaroo) and the incredible lamington blue spiny crayfish. (B,L,D) O Reilly s Rainforest Retreat. DAY 6: LAMINGTON NP TO LADY ELLIOT ISLAND - November 17 We depart this morning to drive down the mountain and to Coolangatta airport. We fly to the Great Barrier Reef and Lady Elliot Island. We shoot this afternoon and include a workshop. (B,D) Resort Accommodation - Note that weight limitations will apply for luggage. We will offer a suggested list closer to time to help. DAYs 7 & 8: LADY ELLIOT ISLAND - November 18&19 Two full days shooting amazing nature and creative subjects. From giant nesting turtles to thousands of birds, coral and more. This is a challenging location to shoot, but one that offers great rewards. (B,D) Lady Elliot Island Resort. DAY 9: LADY ELLIOT ISLAND TO SYDNEY - TOUR ENDS... November 20 After a final morning shoot, we fly to nearby Hervey Bay and connect with our flight to Sydney. On arrival, tour services end. Tasmania is famous for fantastic landscapes, nature and creative shoots. Register your interest when booking... MEALS The quote includes meals as per itinerary. (Most meals.) Julia was born in Liverpool, England yet soon migrated to New Zealand with her family. She launched her travel career in 1979 in tropical Noosa, Queensland where she managed one of the first resorts in the region. Then it was back to Auckland, New Zealand to take up the role of travel consultant. Before long, Go International snapped Julia up as a travel rep. While leading an educational tour on Norfolk Island in 1989, Julia met Darran. Though her career remained trans-tasman for several years after, Julia is now in her element as a travel consultant extraordinaire for World Photo Adventures. He first became serious with a camera when he borrowed his dad s camera while on a workshop on Fraser Island. He went on to win best photo with over 100 adult photographers. Frazer is our IT and Social Media manager. He designs and manages our website and helps to keep you up to date with our great adventures.
