DIPLOMA OF AVIATION (COMMERCIAL PILOT LICENCE AEROPLANE) A Diploma of Aviation is the goal for most pilots because it gives you the greatest opportunity to land a career in the field. To complete this training program, you will need to be highly familiar with aviation knowledge and be able to utilise it in a practical sense. It will not only be important for you to know the extensive amount of material you are taught, but also be able to apply it. A few skills you need to demonstrate include accurate and expeditious flight planning; safe and accurate aircraft operation; operational decision making; enhanced navigation techniques; and operation in complex airspace. The programs we offer will equip you with the skills and experience you need to master these tasks. You will receive training in the various procedures as well as command building time, which will help you meet the requirements that an employer would look for in a professional pilot. Our goal is to get you ready to start your career. This course will be offered in conjunction with Australian Pilot Training Alliance (APTA).

THE SKY IS CALLING YOUR SYLLABUS WILL COVER Stage 1 - RPL This is the first step every pilot must undertake in their journey to becoming a professional pilot. In this stage you ll learn the basics of flight both in the air and on the ground. A solid knowledge of flight theory is key to performing well in this stage. Here you ll undergo a number of theory courses and tests, including pre-solo theory. Getting mentally prepared for a solo flight can be just as challenging as gaining the flying skills needed to successfully complete a circuit by yourself. To gain the skills needed to successfully pass an RPL test you will undergo 5 hours of training in a flight simulator, 30 hours of dual flying with an experienced instructor and 5 hours of solo flight time and Pilot-In-Command (PIC) of an aircraft. Stage 2 - PPL After successfully gaining your RPL and moving into the PPL stage, you ll really understand why pre-flight planning is key to any successful flight. Navigation exercises can be challenging for some pilots. A well planned navigation exercise is both rewarding and enjoyable the more preparation you put into the flight the more you ll get out of it. In this stage you ll undergo 23 hours of dual and solo navigation flight training on the Sling 2 or Diamond DA40. Stage 3A - PIC Hour Building This stage is all about building up your own skills as a pilot. You ll have the freedom to fly all over Australia if you want to in this stage. This is what we call a fly away and it s a great opportunity to grow in confidence and skill. Take your friends and travel the country - see sights that only few people will see in their lifetime. This stage includes just under 70 hours of solo flying hours so plenty of time to take up all your family and friends and show them what you love to do. Stage 3B - CPL Training Countdown time. You re almost there. Just 28 hours left to go before you obtain your Diploma of Aviation. Here you ll start flying the Diamond DA40 aircraft. This is a powerful plane that you ll have to learn how to control. You ll be given some conversion training across to this aircraft but then it s all up to you to show your testing officer the skills you ve learnt along your flying journey. Now begins your flying career working as an professional pilot. 9

Competition is fierce amongst pilots wishing to work for a commercial airline and entry requirements can made it hard to secure a position straight away. This is largely due to commercial airlines often requiring candidates to have a minimum of 500hrs flight time before being considered for a pilot position. If you do have your sights set on joining a commercial airline, there are two main ways that you can build this flying time: Regional Flight Work Remote areas in Australia, such as the Northern Territory and Western Australia, have a high demand for pilots as they largely rely on light aircraft to transport people and supplies. Students can relocate to a remote area such as this to answer this demand and build flying time quickly. Flight Instructor Work DIPLOMA OF AVIATION Graduate Career Pathways There are a number of different career pathways available to pilots with a Diploma of Aviation including those offered at commercial airlines. Students can also use their diploma certificate to apply for bachelor courses in the future (such as the Bachelor of Aviation Industry Management taught at RMIT University), and get up to 1 year s recognition of prior learning (RPL), so in 3 years time, they can get a CPL, diploma and a bachelor. By completing an Instructor Rating, students can get paid to teach others how to fly and build their flying hours at the same time. This is a popular option for those wishing to build their flying hours in a capital city rather than relocating to a remote area. An Instructor Rating will also be looked upon favourably by airlines if you wish to pursue a position in the future. In addition to this, pilots with a Diploma of Aviation can also pursue careers in : - Aerial Surveillance - Air Ambulance - Charter Flights - Corporate (private) Flights - Fire Spotting/Bombing - Search & Rescue 14
