OL TUKAI LODGE AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK Discovery: Amboseli Afternoon. Each day on safari is different. You may see two oryx locking horns, vervet monkeys climbing acacia trees or spotted hyenas devouring their prey. Day Five Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania Cross the border into Tanzania at Namanga. Pass through the Lake Manyara region on your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge, which sits on the highest point of the Ngorongoro Crater. Discovery: The Great Rift Valley. The Great Rift Valley, a tectonic valley created 30 million years ago,stretches from southwest Asia to Mozambique. The park supports a diverse group of residents due to its many ecosystems: forests, savannahs, mountains, plateaus and wetlands. Arrive at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge for lunch. Discovery: A Masai Village. Ngorongoro also is home to the seminomadic Masai people. Meet Masai villagers and learn about their culture. Day Six Ngorongoro Crater Discovery: The Garden of Eden. Spend the day exploring the Ngorongoro Crater, which actually is a caldera created by the collapse of the volcano s cone more than 2 million years ago. Embark on a thrilling ride to the crater floor. The animal population in the crater is large and diverse. The residents include the African wild dog, Burchell s zebra, hippopotamus, cheetah, as well as the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhinoceros. Stop for a picnic lunch on the crater floor. Day Seven Olduvai Gorge Serengeti Travel to today. Discovery: The Cradle of Mankind. Visit the Olduvai Gorge. This 30-mile (48-kilometer) ravine is where anthropologist Mary Leakey in 1959 discovered a 1.75 million-year-old skull of a human ancestor. Her find confirmed that human evolution began in Africa. Arrive at Serengeti Sopa Lodge for lunch. Discovery: Serengeti Safari. The Big Five are all in residence at. Keep your eyes open for lions, leopards, rhinos, Cape buffaloes and elephants, as well as the African wild cats, aardvarks, baboons, monkeys, hyenas and much more! Day Eight ELECTIVE: Up, Up and Away. Rise before dawn and hop into the gondola of a hot-air balloon for a ride over the Serengeti plains. Float over grazing gazelle or a cheetah chasing his prey across the savannah. Discovery: Endless Plains. Visiting the Serengeti while wildebeest are calving gives you an opportunity to see many young antelope grazing on these plains along with their mothers and the rest of their herd. As a result, lions, cheetahs, leopards, African wild dogs, jackals, hyenas and other predators lurk nearby as they plan for their next meal. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Day Nine, Kenya Fly to the border for a land crossing into Kenya. Take another short flight to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. These flights allow you to transfer quickly between the Serengeti and Maasai Mara and take in views of the East African plains, which seem to stretch to the horizon, and the wildlife from above. Upon arrival, transfer to the Fairmont Mara Safari Club, a luxury tented safari camp. Feel adventurous without sacrificing a deluxe lodge s comforts: electricity, an en-suite bathroom and a comfortable bed. Discovery: Introduction to the Maasai Mara. You may see African wild dogs, bat-eared foxes and jackals, all canine cousins of the domesticated dog. Return for breakfast and some time at leisure to relax on the deck outside your tent or take a dip in the pool. NGORONGORO SOPA LODGE NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA Discovery: Heart of the Mara. Observe diurnal animals winding down their day as the nocturnal animals are beginning theirs. Day Eleven Discovery: Maasai Mara Experience. Your final full day on safari features morning and afternoon game drives. Don t forget to look up to see the feathered inhabitants. More than 60 types of raptors soar over the Mara, plus storks, vultures, hornbills, cranes, falcons, secretary birds and more.
