Awards and Certifications Doubletree s Journey through Sustainability Doubletree establishes a green team made up of one employee from each department and holds monthly meetings 2004 Green Seal Certification In 2006, the Doubletree Hotel Portland was the first full service hotel west of the Mississippi to be Green Seal Certified. When it came for re-certification 3 years later, Green Seal had developed tiers for their certification Bronze, Silver and Gold. After a rigorous audit, the Doubletree was recertified at the Silver level. Oregon Business Magazine 100 Best Green Companies Each year Oregon Business Magazine publishes a survey to over 26,000 Oregon workers who are asked to rate satisfaction and importance in 10 statements related to sustainable practices. In 2010 the Doubletree hotel was listed number 12 on the list, scoring 282 out of a possible 300 points. ENERGY STAR Certification ENERGY STAR is the trusted, government-backed symbol for energy efficiency helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices. Based on the information entered about a building, such as its size, location, number of occupants, number of PCs, etc., the rating system estimates how much energy the building would use if it were the best performing, the worst performing, and every level in between. The system then compares the actual energy data you entered to the estimate to determine where your building ranks relative to its peers. The Doubletree has an ENERGY STAR rating of 94 on their scale of 1-100. Doubletree is the first full service hotel west of the Mississippi to be Green Seal Certified 2006 Hotel is awarded AHLA s Award for Best Practices Doubletree switches to locally roasted Portland Roasting Coffee 2008 Doubletree converts part of parking garage to covered bike lot and offers bikes for guests 2010 2010 Sustainability Report The lobby at the Doubletree Hotel Portland may look similar to the entryway to most other hotels: guests mingle amid plush furnishings as a busy front desk gladly greets new arrivals. Yet just steps from the lobby is a world most visitors never see. Beyond the lobby walls, hundreds of people gladly commit themselves to making the hotel, the community and the world a more sustainable place to live, work and play. What sets this hotel apart from other properties employing green best practices is the teamwork, effort and commitment put forth by every associate and executive. We ve learned we can best achieve success by looking at all opportunities through the triple bottom line: People, Planet, Profit. While financial success indeed is gauged by our return on investment, the intrinsic value of this commitment to the planet is immeasurable. As our guests become more environmentally aware in their own lives, they will further appreciate the efforts we put forth to create a truly sustainable yet seamless stay at our property. They will likely never know the commitment to a green environment taking place just steps away behind our lobby walls, and perhaps it s best that way. Yet that s our responsibility to our guests, to our families, and yes, to the world in which we live. -Jennifer Dolan, Green Team President 2005 Doubletree partners with the City of Portland s Portland Composts! Program and diverts 256,680 lbs of food waste to compost 2007 Hotel is awarded the City of Portland s BEST Award for Best Practices Incandescent lightbulbs are replaced with compact fluorescent (CFLs), water aerators, converters, and restrictors are installed in faucets, showerheads, and toilets 2009 Purchased 2,200 lbs of wild caught Columbia River salmon from Native American Yakima Tribe Hotel is re-certified by Green Seal at the Silver level Doubletree Hotel Portland 1000 NE Multnomah Street Portland, OR 97232 www.doubletreegreen.com (503) 281-6111

Food & Beverage The banquet department developed the following criteria for meetings & events: - One table cloth and table pads instead of two table cloths each time - Water pitcher and glasses are used in place of bottled water - Bulk butter, jam, sugar, Splenda are used at coffee breaks and on tables - Compostable to-go containers and flatware made of corn and potatoes - Comprehensive composting and recycling program Guestrooms Environmentally Safe (Green Seal Certified) Cleaning Supplies Energy Management Program Ceramic instead of Paper Cups Refillable Amenity Dispensers Waste Baskets with Built-in Divider for Waste/Recycling Composts Pizza Boxes Recycles Drycleaning Hangers Water Saving Fixtures Purchasing Executive Chef Steven Ward follows a FLOSS philosophy: Fresh, Local, Organic, Seasonal, Sustainable. The entire culinary team has worked to develop relationships with local farmers, ranchers, and fishermen to buy local when possible. This year we were able to purchase local goods such as salmon, tomatoes, berries, and basil in bulk and process for use throughout the year. Paying it Forward The Doubletree Hotel Portland looks at all opportunities through the lens of the Triple Bottom Line: People, Planet, Profit. While every organization needs to stay in business, the well-being of both our employees and the environment plays a role in the decisions we make on a daily basis. Mass Transit: All associates employed for at least 30 days are eligible to receive a subsidized annual pass from Trimet. Approximately 40% of our 230 employees take advantage of this benefit. The hotel began offering this program in in 1999 and since its inception has saved approximately 82,500 gallons of gas. Ronald McDonald House: Twice a month the culinary team makes dinner for 30 people to be donated to each of the Ronald McDonald Houses in Portland. Volunteers from the CARE Committee and Green Team deliver the meals to deserving families. Green Week: Each year the Green Team puts on Green Week: a chance for continued education and training around the hotel. In addition learning about other departments initiatives, there are contests and competitions to get employees engaged. Food Pantry: The hotel turned a storage room into a food storage pantry for employees. Associates can donate money or canned goods to the pantry, and those in need during periods of slow business can fill one bag per week. Utilities Since 2006, we have been able to reduce our consumption with retrofits and best practices. In addition, the Doubletree maintains visionary status with Pacific Power s Blue Sky program to purchase 30% renewable wind energy. This equates to 161 cars off the road or 21,912 trees planted. 2006 vs. 2010 06 2009 vs. 2010 06 10 237,952 202,889 Gas (therms) 06 10 6,104,000 5,092,000 Elec (KWH) 10 36,741 29,295 Water (CCF) 09 10 204,556 202,889 Gas (therms) 09 10 5,224,000 5,092,000 Elec (KWH) 09 10 29,280 29,295 Water (CCF) 2011 Goals Continued advocacy and leadership role in the hospitality industry Hold annual health fair for hotel employees and community Nominate and award Green Department of the Year Reduce overall waste by 5% Achieve City of Portland BEST Award for Sustainable Food System Tons With a comprehensive waste diversion plan in place, the hotel has gone from sending 92% of its waste to a landfill to only 37% in 2010.
