The Baltic-Adriatic Axis Better Infrastructure for Europe S

Connecting people Connecting 55 Mio people 15 % of EU population Improvement of accessibility Partly extensive shortening of travelling time

Political Dimension of BAC Since EU enlargement 2004, need for additional Alpine Crossing East of TEN PP 1 (Berlin Brenner - Palermo) Contribution to spatial integration and territorial cohesion

Strengths of BAC Flat rail way, saving transport costs Connecting several nodes to other important TEN T Axes including inland waterway (Danube) and links to Asia Overlapping hinterland connection of Baltic and Adriatic seaports (Motorways of the Sea) Modal shift reducing emissions of greenhouse and polluting gases and enhancing transport safety

12 Regions support the immediate realisation of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor

Pomorskie Pomeranian

Pomorskie Pomeranian Marshal of the PomorskieVoivodeship Jan Kozłowski

The participation of the Pomorskie Region in the Baltic-Adriatic corridor is crucial for the creation of an integrated Pan-European railway network. We are convinced that an effective railway connection along the North-South axis will have a substantial impact on reinforcing territorial and economic cohesion of the EU, as well as competitiveness of our region and the whole country. This corridor will be an interesting alternative for other means of transport and thus, it will contribute to developing a sustainable transport in Europe.

Statement

Mazowieckie Masovian

Mazowieckie Masovian The Marshal of Mazowieckie Voivodeship Adam Struzik

"Signing of the declaration supporting the development of the Baltic- Adriatic Corridor will eventually allow for the inclusion of the Mazovia Region into the flow of commodities, capital and innovation streaming from the North to the South of Europe. The fact that the main communication corridors are passing through the Mazovia Region creates an enormous opportunity. All actions taken towards enlargement and intensification of these connections are perceived as means of increasing the competitiveness of Mazovia Region and strengthening its national and international position". The Baltic - Adriatic Axis Better Infrastructure for Europe

Lodzkie Lódz

Lodzkie Lódz The Marshall of the Lodz Voivodeship Mr. Włodzimierz Fisiak

As a Marshal of the Lodz Voivodship, located in the center of Poland, I would like to stress the importance of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor for the accessibility of our region and its economical development. Simultaneously I would like to emphasize, that future advantages of the creation of the corridor will be possible only through extension of other means of transport in our voivodship. The Baltic-Adriatic railway corridor together with constructed networks of highways and main roads, Lodz Airport as well as planned two intermodal terminals will make our region in the near future the main transport centre in Poland.

Zlinský kraj Zlin Region

Zlinský kraj Zlin Region Vice President of the Zlin Region Jaroslav Drozd

The Zlin Region, as a frontier region of Eastern Moravia, has the necessity to create effective connections to the main axes of European transports to increase its potential for agricultural development, competitiveness and prosperity. The creation of this new strategic transport corridor means for us both a challenge and fresh opportunity to develop a concrete partnership cooperation between states and regions.

Jihomoravsky kraj South Moravian Region

Jihomoravsky kraj South Moravian Region Councillor of the South Moravian Region Miloš Šifalda

Let s corridor, let s light for the South Moravian Region and Europe!

Wien Vienna Member of the Vienna City Council Omar Al-Rawi

Vienna gets a new Central Station, which forms part of the main railway line for Europe, the Magistrale for Europe, and is at the same time Vienna s first through station and a major European transport hub. The train connection to the Adriatic Sea and to the Baltic Sea is just as important for our city and region as the connection to Western and South Eastern Europe.

Steiermark Styria

Steiermark Styria Landeshauptmann Franz Voves

The realization of the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor is a decisive precondition for the regional development of our regions in the future. At the same time Europe will grow together even more. Some of the key projects, which are a technical and financial challenge, are situated in Steiermark. The bigger the changes will be for us in the end. With the realization of the Baltic Adriatic Corridor, Steiermark will have access to the railway network of the 21 st century. I am thus glad to see so much support for our common project.

Statement

Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia President of Friuli Venezia Giulia Autonomous Region Mr. Renzo Tondo

It is my conviction as President of Friuli Venezia Giulia autonomous Region that what we are signing today in the European Parliament is not in the mere interest of the 19 Regions concerned or of the 12 Regions represented here today, but will benefit the whole European Union, and this from a twofold perspective: lower emissions and acceleration of recovery of the economy thanks to Regions and European Commission acting together to boost modern railway connections between the North and the South of Europe tackling the renewed Lisbon Strategy for growth and job within the knowledge society in an integrated manner among Baltic, Danube and Adriatic areas

Veneto

Veneto Representative of the Veneto Region to the CoR Regional Ministry for Budget Policies Marialuisa Coppola

"The Veneto Region, due to its long lasting port tradition, strongly supports the Adriatic Baltic Corridor, as a link between the harbours of the Adriatic Sea and those of the Baltic Sea."

Emilia Romagna

Emilia Romagna Minister of Transport and Mobility Mr. Alfredo Peri

" The Baltic Adriatic Corridor will contribute to cohesion, environmental sustainability and competitiveness of the EU. The Region Emilia-Romagna strongly supports this strategy, contributing to the strengthening of the connection between the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor and Central Europe and to the integration with the priority axis Berlin- Palermo."
